Serena Mountain Lodge towers over the mountainous peaks of Mount Kenya where you can view the spectacular game, regularly viewed at the waterhole daily during game drives. This is the home of the Big Five and the Serena Mountain Lodge prides itself in having a constant record of big game visits and sightings. The Lodge is at 2194 m on the slopes of Mount Kenya and surrounded by lush rainforest's.

The African night is enlivened by the sounds of the forest animals. You can view the game even closer as they feed at the water hole, by visiting the specially built and constructed viewing bunker connected to the lodge from a short tunnel.

Accommodation at The Serena Mountain Lodge consists of:

This 42 bedroom lodge is accessed through the forest. A draw bridge leads you onto a winding path deep into the rain forest where you meet the warm and your hosts on the wooden decks of the resort. The timbered lodge gives the impression of boarding a ship. Winding stairs lead to a selection of comfortable, cabin-styled rooms. Each private room has indigenous wood- paneled walls and furnished with African crafts. You can view the waterhole from your spacious veranda, where there is never a dull moment.

The bar has a welcoming fire and is decorated with traditional Kikuyu handcrafts and sepia prints reminding you of the local culture and heritage. The fireside comforts against the evening chill of this unique tropical mountain environment. Adjacent is the dining room and the menu offers a blend of traditionally safari favorites, spicy ethnic cuisine, and internationally-themed dishes.

Local facilities include various herbal massages and beauty therapies; curio shop; full housekeeping, Forex facilities; medical back-up and emergency evacuation facilities; all weather airstrip and well-maintained road network; board games plus a full library and express check-in and check-out facilities.

Forest walks can be arranged with views of game and ample bird life. For a very sporty and adventurous challenge why not prolong your walk up to Mount Kenya. Tailor-made safaris and or personal programmes are provided for every individual and they are managed by experienced professionals.

Activities include sailing, fishing, scuba diving, walking safaris, ballooning, canoe safaris, biking, mountain climbing and trekking. Visit the deserted beach or tented lodge at the riverside, shaded by acacia trees.

We just returned from a truly serene and rejuvenating weekend spent at Serena Mountain Lodge. Very pleasant climate and with the recent rains everything is bathed in green. The lodge is interestingly built overlooking a watering hole, frequented by many animals. We saw water bucks, bush bucks, buffalo, Egyptian geese, mongoose and Sykes Monkeys. The staff is very attentive and helpful from Isaac the manager to Mary at the reception and George at the restaurant.
We had a lovely stay.

We stayed at the Serena Mountain Lodge on our way from Samburu to to Lake Nakuru. What I appreciated about this place was the Flora and Fauna. I was actually shocked to see pine trees in Africa, but then this is an alpine location. In the guide books this place is compared to a ship, which is partially due to the use of wood and perhaps to the somewhat cramped quarters (rooms are a bit small). All the rooms face the watering hole, which is the place where the original owner used to hunt his game back when it was legal to do so. Today, the game is not quite as plentiful, but we did see Cape Buffalo, Bush Bucks and some water Foul. We did spend an enjoyable hour and a half with Jacob and Jacob, the local biologists, taking a hike about the property, but otherwise our time there was pretty quiet, which is not all bad as long as that is what you are looking for.

We stayed at the end of March 2018 as a family of 3.
This was a refreshing change to the game lodges we had stayed at on safari. It is basically a giant tree house, similar to the famous Tree Tops but I thought this had a nicer, less enclosed feel to it. Yes, it is dark inside as it is made from wood but to me that gives it a unique feel.
We had a spectacular view of the water hole from our room, and we could lay in bed and watch the animals.
We went on the nature walk, however the weather was against us but the hotel had wellies and waterproofs for us all and even laid on tea and biscuits half way round. Nice touch, but given it was raining so hard our cups were filling with rain, we just wanted to crack on.
The lunch was exceptional but dinner not so. There was a couple of choices on the menu, and a small buffet of salads and deserts.
This is a great place to stay if you are adding an overnight at Mt Kenya, and given how different the scenery is to the big reserves like Masai Mara or Samburu, if you have the time it is worth it to get a fuller experience of Kenya
Fabulous. 4 out of 5
