Mikumi Wildlife Camp is located inside Mikumi National Park, very close to the main gate. At the Camp are 6 big banda’s, with in total 12 spacious rooms. The banda’s are spread out on the property of the Camp, all overlooking the African open plains dotted with Sausage-trees, Tamarind Trees and paper-bark acacia’s. Because the Camp is inside the national park, the wildlife is never far away. Since we have been here for so long and never posed a threat to the wildlife, we have become part of it. Big herds of impala and buffalo are roaming around in between the rooms and on a regular base you might be able to see elephants from your veranda.
In Room Facilities:
All rooms are en-suite, each with a large veranda and individually decorated in African style. The rooms are equipped with fans, safe boxes and mosquito nets. In each banda, the two rooms are adjoining, which makes it a perfect option for families and children.

Area Information:
The Mikumi National Park near Morogoro, Tanzania, was established in 1964. It covers an area of 3230 km² hence is the fifth largest in the country. The landscape of Mikumi National Park is often compared to that of the Serengeti. The road that crosses the park divides it into two areas with partially distinct environments. The area north-west is characterized by the alluvial plain of the river basin Mkata. The vegetation of this area consists of savannah dotted with acacia, baobab, tamarinds, and some rare palm. In this area, at the furthest from the road, there are spectacular rock formations of the mountains Rubeho and Uluguru. The southeast part of the park is less rich in wildlife, and not very accessible.

Property Facilities:
At Mikumi Wildlife Camp, we offer a wild range of activities and excursions.

Morning Game Drive.
Afternoon Game Drive.
Full Day Game Drive.
Bicycle Safari.
Bush breakfast.
Birdwatching.

Attractions:
The Mikumi National Park belongs to the circuit of the wildlife parks of south Tanzania, less visited by international tourists and better protected from the environmental point of view. Most of the routes that cross the Mikumi proceed in the direction of the Ruaha National Park and the Selous. The recommended season for visiting the park is the dry season between May and November, warm weather and beautiful sites that are a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

It's all about your expectations. You're staying at a "camp" in a national park, so naturally, the rooms will be a bit closer to nature than your average hotel. There are bats and small geckos around, and bugs of course, but they are more or less harmless and unconcerned with peaceful visitors. The staff spray the rooms each day to control mosquitos, which I was very happy to find out. There is also a mosquito net around the beds, but there were some holes and it wasn't fastened 100% tightly, so I was a bit concerned about that and used my own free-standing one.

The staff were incredibly helpful and welcoming, and the food was some of the best we had in Tanzania. We felt incredibly safe for our entire stay.

Naturally, there's a lot of noise in the area (crickets, cars from the nearby road, animals walking about) so if you're a light sleeper bring earplugs.

The only hiccup was that we arrived quite late at night, and the security guard gave us a bit of trouble about wanting to enter the park so late. But he was able to call the staff at the camp and everything got sorted.

We were there during rainy season, which in our experience honestly seemed to enhance the experience. It didn't rain a lot (which selfishly was great, but I know this unpredictability is awful for local agri), but when it did it was fine. Because it was rainy season, we saw tons of baby animals which was amazing. It was a bit cooler as well. Anyways, we were a bit concerned about going during low season, but ended up really happy with the decision. We saw plenty of animals, including a lioness and her cubs!! Made for less cars in the park, too.

Overall, this was an incredible experience and I highly recommend!

My sister and I stayed at the camp for a four day safari (6 game drives), and it was an amazing experience from start to finish. Our guide Epiana was friendly, knowledgeable, and was a genuinely sweet person. All the staff at the lodge restaurant/ cafe were equally courteous and charming; there's not a single detail that could have been improved upon. We were privileged to see baby lions playing and rough housing with the lionesses and malelions nearby, tons of elephants ( including babies) playing in the water with a gorgeous sunset as a backdrop, and a ton of zebras, giraffes, roebuck and impalas (among other animals). It was my first safari, but my sister's 5th, and she said that the lions we saw were the most active she's seen them on any other trip. I feel incredibly privileged to have been able to see all the animals I did, and that's in no small part due to the amazing care the staff at mikumi camp provided for us. We would recommend this place to everyone and anyone.

Unforgettable trip. Location is not too far from Dar es Salaam. Mikumi Wildlife Camp was perfect. Spacious room with comfy bed, all tucked in at night with mosquito net. The room windows are open but screened and it was perfect. Hearing the lions and other animals at night was magical. Masai walk guests to their rooms at night and early morning, and stand guard all night to prevent “lions with bad intentions” from coming into camp. We especially loved lounging on comfy couches overlooking the watering hole, watching the animals. Elephants, giraffe, zebra, buffalo, wildebeest, impala and others come to drink. It is spectacular. Baboons are also fun to watch around the camp. The game drives were amazing, we saw so much. Our guide, Kelvin, was the best. Food at the camp was super. We bought three meals a day package but quite honestly breakfast and dinner would have been enough. By the time you get back from morning game drive and eat breakfast, a full lunch isn’t really needed and if you are hungry you can simply order something. Dinners were fantastic; each morning you are asked to choose from a few options what you want to eat that night. I recommend bringing your own wine if you enjoy wine. There was no white wine at all when we were there. You can’t buy wine by the glass, only by the bottle. Beer and other drinks such as gin & tonic were all available. Electricity is turned off at certain pre-posted times so be aware of that. For example, early mornings when you get up for game drives there is no power so bring a flashlight or flashlight app on your phone. Gift shop has a nice selection and some items I didn’t see later in the markets in Dar, so I was glad I had bought at the camp shop. Everyone at Mikumi Wildlife Camp was welcoming and helpful. It is a wonderful place.
