Equipped Cottages
Few other reserves offer as complete an outdoor experience as De Hoop – sea, sand dunes, the vlei, a floral sensation of rare fynbos plants, diverse antelope and the Potberg Mountains. Birders observe wading birds on the shores of the vlei while the Potberg Mountains are home to a colony of endangered Cape vultures. Hikers and cyclists have close-up encounters with bontebok, Cape mountain zebra, eland, baboons and ostriches. Activities are diverse and guests can choose between various day walks through the rich fynbos plains or along the deserted coastline, or mountain biking along the many gravel roads or scenic game drives. Lazing on the beach and snorkeling in the many turquoise rock pools is simply another way to pass a rewarding day. Day visitors welcome, and restaurant open daily.
There is one 3-bedroomed cottage called Eland, and six 2-bedroomed cottages; Mountain Zebra, Bontebok, Baboon, Steenbok, Duiker and Grysbok. These cottages have fully equipped kitchens, comfortable bedrooms and bathrooms supplied with fresh linen and towels. These well-appointed cottages are a stylish and affordable option in the hub of the reserve.
The Equipped Cottages forms part of the Opstal area, which offers the largest amount of accommodation in the De Hoop Collection and is close to the hub of central offices, restaurants, bars, spa and curio shop. It is a short drive, hike or cycle to many of the interesting locations in the reserve. There is a tennis court, swimming pools and boules courtyard.

Reviews
We had excellent 2 nights in "Eland" cottage - clean, comfortable and with all amenities. Baboons a bit of a pest on one morning.
The restaurant was outstanding too.
Excellent. Well spaced cottages. Fully equiped.
A warm welcome from a very enthusiastic team, outstanding wildlife experience (whales in particular) and very comfortable and clean accommodation. The peace and solitude is addictive!
Previously, I have only done a quick trip into De Hoop to watch the whales at Koppie Alleen. We were not disappointed spotting a pod frolicking just beyond the waves. This time we decided to stay on the reserve and were pleasantly surprised. There are abundant eland, ostrich and De Hoop apparently has more bontebok than Bontebok National Park. We saw a secretary bird, dung beetles and plenty of whales plus the fynbos was green and flowering. So beautiful. It’s definitely worth spending more time and mountain biking or hiking to make the most of the reserve. After all the rain we’ve had this winter the vlei was propvol. We went on a boat cruise and Dylan the guide was knowledgeable, answering questions about birds, snakes, bees, plants and history and engaging everyone on board. We were very impressed.
The accommodation was clean, well-maintained and perfectly appointed. No complaints.
What a wonderful surprise to find such a gem in SA.
Our visit was wonderful. It's quiet, secluded and very diverse.
I really enjoyed the bird walk and nature drive with Dalfrenzo. His knowledge and insights are remarkable, and he has an eagle eye when it comes to lbj's.
Accommodation in Vlei cottages was very nice. Serviced daily, and spotlessly clean. Linen and amenities of excellent quality. A better hair dryer would be recommended.
Meals at Fig Tree restaurant were very tasty and beautifully presented. The view from the restaurant and deck area is fantastic.
The self catering cottages have everything one needs and are maintained and serviced to a high standard. De Hoop itself is a quiet getaway with good walks and cycle routes. Suffered a tyre puncture as I drove into the reserve but staff changed and repaired the tyre. Thanks to them.
The cottages are nice, simply decorated. The reserve is beautiful, the dunes and the fynbos with plenty of Bontebok, Elands, Ostriches, Cape Hare, etc. Beautiful to walk around. Don't forget to use the stunning pole that overlooks the water filled with flamingoes and pelicans.

Everything was lovely.
Vlei cottages comfortable, high quality linen and amenities. Serviced and replenished daily. Spotlessly clean.
Bird walk and nature drive both excellent. Our guide was very knowledgeable and a great host.
It's secluded, quiet and a true getaway for those who don't like crowded places.
Restaurant meals were excellent, service too. View from restaurant and deck very beautiful.
