Welcome to "The Annex" at Wild Almond,

McGregor is a little Karoo village where time has stood still. It charms out of town visitors with its quaint architecture, majestic mountains and friendly villagers and to top it all, is surrounded by some of the best wine makers and estates in the Western Cape. As you slowly drive up quiet Voortrekker Street, you come to Tindall St. You can't miss it as Garagiste, Ilse Schutte’s superb, Bemind Wines, is on your right as you turn into a lovely tree lined side street named after one of the original elders of McGregor. You will shortly see some very old and stately Eucalyptus Trees gently swaying in the afternoon breeze....

You have arrived at Wild Almond and the Annex. The cottage has a charming McGregor Country Georgian design and is a relatively new addition, side by side, but separate to the original and well known, Wild Almond Cottage. As you park your car inside the property, you will be met and warmly welcomed by Dennis, a long-time resident and owner, who will unlock and introduce the property to you.A discreet wooden door, framed by fragrant Star Jasmine bids you enter the stone passageway which leads to your front door.Your first impression will be of abundant space and a feeling of tranquility.

The Annex consists of two en-suite bedrooms furnished in a classic, yet contemporary style. Both bedrooms have queen size beds and crisp 220 thread count cotton linen and non-allergenic duvets and pillows. Fluffy white towels await you in the en-suite bathrooms which consist of a spacious shower and loo. The main living is a large barn style room with comfortable setee and occasional armchairs and a oh-so-warm roaring log fire (for those chilly, romantic winter Karoo nights)….. WIFI connectivity is immediately available.

An open plan, fully equipped kitchen with an Elba gas hob and a Bosch oven, Bosch fridge/freezer, micro wave oven, dish washer will allow you to cook up a storm with some of those delicious Karoo organic goodies you purchased at our Farmers Market, known as M&M,(Made in McGregor Shop up the road) is adjacent to the stylish and welcoming ,six seater Cape Georgian period dining room table. Various interesting and captivating artworks adorn the walls. There are large glass and wood patio doors which open out to a vine covered verandah with relaxing built in seating as well as a cast metal, circular table and chairs. All this overlooks a contained and private, gravelled Karoo Mediterranean garden, consisting of Frantoia and Mission Olive trees, fragrant Rosemary ,Iceberg Roses, Aloes and other interesting succulents and trees. There is a shared farm style pool for those hot summer days The Annex at Wild Almond is situated in the centre of McGregor, which means that shops, restaurants and various venues are all within short walking distance,5 minutes or so.
McGregor has some really interesting restaurants and eateries.Tebaldis, set in the middle of a beautiful garden with Peacocks strutting their stuff is the place to sample Karoo Bistro cooking at its best accompanied by the best local wines.
51 on Voortrekker offers delicious breakfasts and lunches. Think freshly baked sourdough breads, daily menus and delicious coffee.

How Bazaar, also in Voortrekker presents a fabulous array of cakes and coffees whilst watching locals playing Boule in the garden
Wine estates and Olive farms, surround McGregor. Lords Winery which is only 8kms from McGregor is situated under the shadow of Die Galg, an imposing Riviersondereinde mountain peak run by the fabulous Oosterhuizen Family headed up by Jacie, wine master supreme. Expect to see the resident Blue Crane family and perhaps a chick. strutting their stuff while you sip a glass of Jacie’s delicious, award winning, chilled Pinot Noir or Chardonnay, accompanied by a delicious casual luncheon, while savouring the magnificent valley views.
For the more energetic there are superb hiking trails around McGregor to test your fitness or more gentle meanders up the Die Krans trail which is in McGregor up to the dam at the top of the village.
“The Annex” and “The Cottage at” Wild Almond are an excellent choice for discerning families, couples and friends to share or individually enjoy a relaxed, yet private, time out break in the heart of the Little Karoo. McGregor is only a beautiful 2 hour drive from central Cape Town. We look forward to welcoming you soon

Enough good food and wine to enjoy without being commercialized and touristy. Enjoyed the countryside and being “away from it all”.
