Welcome to Wakkerstroom Cottages - Mahem House!
Mahem is the sound of the Crowned Crane, as well as the Afrikaans name for this magnificent bird, which is often seen from the properties down at the beautiful Wetland.
This Boer style period property was built back in 1890 and still contains most of its stunning period features. The house offers a large kitchen with a gas stove and electric oven, dishwasher, fridge / freezer and microwave. Filter and instant coffee are provided as well as tea, Rooibos and fruit teas, sugar, sweetener and enough milk for the first morning. Complimentary seasonings for you to take home are also provided. Just off the kitchen entering into the dining room is a fully functional five plate Union 7 coal stove, which burns wood quite successfully and anthracite is provided in winter, as well as a fireplace in the lounge area. Wood, firelighters and matches as well as briquettes are provided for the first night for your convenience. These, coupled with underfloor heating in the kitchen, dining room and bathroom definitely ensure super cosy nights in the chilly weather.
The house offers 4 spacious bedrooms: “Children’s Nursery” with two single beds, “Gentleman’s room” with a king size bed, “Ladies Boudoir” with a king size bed and a single bed, and the main bedroom with a comfortable king-sized bed. All the king bedrooms can be made up into twin rooms on request prior arrangement. All bedding is 200 thread count and electric blankets are there for those cooler nights.
The main bathroom boasts a Victorian bath, shower, basin and toilet and then there is a separate shower room and a separate toilet. Luxurious large bath sheets are provided as well as shower gel, facial wipes, bath bombes and hand cream.
The front veranda offers lovely views of the mountains and guests can relax in the shade on the comfortable furniture perfect for some time out. The back patio has an 8 seater table, perfect for sundowners while admiring the view. Guests can braai on the patio or the undercover veranda.

Very peaceful little town. This is the place if you need time off from the buzz off the city life and just rest and relax.
Beautiful for birders. To note - most things are closed during the week other than the Bakery open daily and the hotel so be sure to check this before going there if you are looking to eat out.
