We chose De Leeuwenhof based on its reputation as being family owned and managed and we were not disappointed . Despite an early arrival Daan and the team went more than the extra mile to accommodate us for breakfast and to turn around our rooms. We chose the luxury bungalows which were traditionally furnished with everything and more to make our 3 day stay comfortable. We loved: the look of the beautiful traditional main building, the warm welcome, Daans tour guide skills, the dogs, great hosting, the wonderful Olsen wine, great showers, hearty breakfasts, the option to enjoy a home cooked informal dinner Al fresco, quiet afternoons, private terrace and sunbeds outside our bungalow, the value for money, and the lunch and location on the wine tour. We would definitely stay on a return trip to the area.

Our trip to the Cape was coming to an end and we decided to visit the winelands. This hotel had been recommended by friends and we booked a room in the Old Stable. When we arrived we were met by our host, Daan, a delightful Dutchman who is a dead ringer for Indianna Jones and clearly lives the part. He is a great enthusiast and his love of his farm which he bought in 2004 is obvious. We were upgraded to the Barnyard and our room was very african, dark and beautifully restored with a twin basin bathroom and little kitchen. The food is the best I had in S. AFrica. The chef is exceptional and every meal cried out to be photographed in its beauty. Unfortunately we are not big eaters and the deal is a 3 course meal every evening which `i tried to do justice to but would have preferred a lighter alternative. My husband, who swears he is not a pudding man, could not resist the amazing deserts. It is very much a family business with both Daan and his wife and two grown up children hands-on at all times. He grows guavas which sadly were not in evidence but also citrus and of course vines. We had four days and could have stayed much longer as there are plenty of places to visit nearby although Paarl managed to escape us despite several attempts to get there. I would recommend this for families and people who are not worried about luxury and can enjoy feeling part of the family.

Had a bit of a runaround as did not see a sign showing hotel's name when coming off the N1. Would have like to have seen a microwave in the kitchen but other than that, all was an absolute pleasure. Clean, modern and breakfasts were good.Owners very caring and friendly. Very recommendable .....

A nice farmhouse (fruit farm) accommodation. Basic, but very nice rooms. Very friendly people. The family is organising a camp fire every evening for the guest to mingle. Very nice and personal service.

We recently got married at the Palmiet Valley Estate which neighbours De Leeuwenhof. One of our main criteria for a wedding venue in the Winelands was that we wanted all of our family and friends to be within walking distance of the festivities. We were extremely lucky that we could fit everyone between these two places (we had guests from 12 countries, I am South African and my wife is Irish and we were living in Uganda at the time so we had an amazing spread of different nationalities and cultures present!).

Daan and his family were outstanding to say the least, from helping us plan the activities which they would host around the main wedding day to making sure that every single person that stayed with them was well looked after. We managed to fill all of their accommodation over the 3 days we were there.

On the first night Daan had arranged a Farm Tour and wine tasting event (the wine used was exceptional and many of our guests bought bottles of it. They’ve not stopped talking about it since!) which was followed by a traditional South African Braai around the outdoor fireplace. His family also made sure that the night didn't drag on too late so as to make sure that there weren't too many sore heads for the wedding the next day. On the Sunday after the Wedding they arranged an amazing picnic for everyone at their property and that night a meal for around 30 people in their wine cellar venue.

All in, there wasn’t a single problem or issue that couldn’t be dealt with then and there and all I can say is that we can recommend De Leeuwenhof as both a wonderful retreat when in the Winelands and also an excellent venue for functions in the area!

Great base to visit local area , but also a good destination itself .
We attended a wedding next door and stayed here.
Food is of a very high quality , try Daan's Breakfast you won't eat for a week!!

We went on a tour with Daan , the owner , around his farm . An amazing and inspirational man.
Rest of family , Yvonne and Tessa charming and attentive .
We will be back and can't recommend highly enough .

Room Tip: All rooms are of a high quality , would recommend the barnyard if you like larger size .

This was our first time in SA as we were invited to a wedding in Paarl. We stayed here for 1 night (as our main base for the trip was in Cape Town). The De Leeuwenhof Hotel is an amazing place, beauty, scenery, history, and most of all hospitality. It has it all. The rooms are very very nice, decorated to a high standard, clean and modern inside but also inkeeping with the theme of a working farm, so all natural materials have been used in it's construction. The De Leeuwenhof's made us part of the family. Even lending me socks when I realised that mine (for the wedding) were back in Cape Town. Saved ! :-) We could not have asked for more. Recommended for everyone that is looking for somewhere with a luxury but family feel

I usually don't write reviews but with place I just had too. This is a family run establishment and both the family and the other staff members made you feel welcome, and especially at home. Everyone there greeted you with a genuine smile and made sure you had everything you needed.
Every part of my stay seemed to be my favorite. From the relaxing room and bed that awaited me at night to the laughs shared amongst other guests poolside or by the fire. The food was amazing! There is a chef on the property and the food is prepared fresh daily. This a perfect place for peace and solitude. I stayed here with six other friends and we all had a fantastic time. This is not a loud party type environment at all. To me it was a place of relaxation with a beautiful atmosphere surrounding you with great food and good wine! There are nice towns within about twenty minutes for shopping and nice restaurants. Truly like a home away from home. I definitely have plans on staying here on my next trip to South Africa.

Probably one of the best places to stay in the Western Cape. In the Winelands, close enough to CPT to not be in the rush, great mountains and views and activities.

Superb. 5 out of 5
