Area Information:
Castelo do Mar can be found on the tip of the northern peninsula in the Bay of Inhambane. This area is called “Linga Linga”.

The Linga Linga area has much to offer in addition to the world class fishing and diving, including excellent birding in the mangroves, a resident dugong “sirenian”, pristine tidal islets and long stretches of deserted beach. The peninsula is often referred to by the locals as an island because waters can rise over the sands at high tides, making access by road impossible.Castelo do Mar, the Lodge, is of historical significance and has preserved remains of a Norwegian whaling station that dates back to around 1911 to 1915

The town of Inhambane situated roughly 478 kilometers north of Maputo, the capital of Mozambique and is accessible by Road or Plane. Covered by large palm plantations and famous for the production of cashews, coconuts and sweet tangerines, the province of Inhambane is one of the main tourism centres hubs in Mozambique today. Inhambane is the capital city of the province and is more of a sleepy town rather than a capital city, but it has an intoxicating old world charm to it.

Inhambane is one of the oldest towns in Mozambique dating back to the 10th century and the Arab traders. In 1498 Vasco do Gama landed with his ships just off the coast of Inhambane. When they reached land in inclement weather and approached a settlement, they were invited in the local ´´Bitonga´´ dialect to come out of the rain – ´´Bela khu Nyumbane´´. The Portuguese thought they were been told the name of the region and so Inhambane got its present name.

The atmosphere and architecture in the town reflects this exciting and diverse history. Inhambane is served by an airport and a port and has petrol stations, banks, public phones, shops, food and craft markets, a bus terminus and a museum with a good selection of photographs, musical instruments and farming implements on display.

Various side-walk cafes are dotted along the narrow streets and the bustling Central market is well worth a visit.

My stay at Castelo is one I will never forget. Completely overwhelmed from the minute I arrived at the airport to the hotel. Once i arrived on the island, I was greeted with a delicious cocktail and a warm face cloth, escorted to my room which was clean, neat and cool. The hotel staff were amazing hosts and extremely professional. Always there to help. All the facilities and services were out of this world! The food was delicious at all times. I mean, served 3 meals a day all made to perfection!! Loved the prawns, just saying!
There were many activities to choose from. Pansy Island is a must. The sunset cruise was just beautiful. Spent hours relaxing at the pool and enjoying beach walks.
This is a place i will visit again and again. Thank you to all the staff members who made my stay unforgettable.

Castelo do Mar is located in Linga Linga, a remote and almost unknown destination with great beach and tranquility in Mozambique. Best restaurant of the area, great pool and beach bar and good hospitality service.
You often see Catmarans docked there as the entrance of the bay offer great protection from the sea. This Lodge offers simple luxury in a great site.

Completely personalized welcoming from airport to transfer to beautiful Resort where facilities, service and food continued to delight as daily during seven day vacation. Sunset cruises, romantic Birthday Dinner as well diving were professionally arranged and executed with attention to detail . Resort management and staff can only be described as passionate and heartwarming hosts firstly and consummate professionals secondly. Definitely will return with extended family in near future.

Where can I possibly start?
Our trip to Castelo was out of this world! They had just reopened and we were the only guests for a couple of days - so we were severely spoilt
The pool was our favorite spot and we kept being served R&Rs and waiting anxiously for the next delicious meal.
The food was amazing - like really people - amazing! What you would pay thousands for they serve daily. The seafood was enormous (prawns, crayfish and calamari) and all made to perfection. And the red and white meat was JUST as good!!
The staff were so friendly! Kirsty (manager) went over and above to make my husbands bday so amazing and the rest of the staff were always ready to help.
The rooms were so neat, cool, and so inviting for afternoon naps and a good nights sleep.
Located right on the beach front you can take long, quiet walks looking for gorgeous pansy shells.
They offer many activities included and many more you can pay for extra.
Highly highly recommended!!

I cannot recommend the location, the hosts and the food, enough. Every single day was amazing, nothing was too much trouble to arrange and always with a smile and a pleasantry. 2 weeks is not long enough so I guess i'm going to be going back for sure!!!

I don’t know where to begin. The service was BEYOND excellent. On our arrival we were met The managers Jean and Kirsty who were absolutely amazing and I have never experienced hospitality like we did as Castelo. They catered for me being a vegetarian, the food was superb and bar very, very reasonable. The lodge should actually be 5 star, exceptionally clean, rooms serviced quickly, staff on call all the time, the views are breath-taking. I could go on and on and on about how this holiday was literally experiencing paradise. Its perfect for families as well as couples, fishing trips, short breakaway or a longer holiday. There are so many activities as well, you are never bored.
