Imagine a private getaway on a secluded island, a hidden gem located on one of Mozambique’s most remote and pristine Archipelagos, a marine paradise that offers total privacy and exclusivity. Azura Quilalea brings to life a relaxed and comfortable ‘Robinson Crusoe’ castaway experience, combined with Azura’s trademark African-chic style. Its somewhere to relax, unwind and forget about the world.

There are just 9 handcrafted villas at Azura Quilalea, hewn from local materials, with coral stone walls, carved wooden beams, makuti thatch roofs, and timber wooden decks. With oversize beds, designer ‘beach-chic’ furnishings, air-conditioning, plunge pools (from mid 2017) and spacious bathrooms with indoor/outdoor baobab tiled showers, they are the perfect island castaway home.

We have recently returned from a week’s holiday at Azura Quilalea with our 2 children age 13 and 16. The island is idyllic with the most beautiful clear turquoise water surrounding it. We particularly liked the house reef so we could snorkel straight from the beach and it was amazing. We also took a boat trip to snorkel at a coral garden on the other side of the island which was really worth it. We kayaked around the island, SUP’d, did cliff jumps, enjoyed walks around the island, looked for shells at the Sand Bar behind Big Rock and enjoyed the caves and rock pools at Turtle Beach at low tide. The rooms are beautiful, light and airy with lovely views of the water. The food is amazing, lots of seafood and fabulous fresh ingredients cooked well, and the service from our Butler, Robson, was top notch. He created different dining areas every night, mostly on the beach and they were spectacular. Leon and Claudia were wonderful hosts; they were so helpful and friendly and made the holiday extra special. I can’t say enough good things about Quilalea. It was faultless.

Great visit - special place. Staff attentive and very friendly. Upgrade to the Kusi category of room. Fishing and diving are good. The chef is good and lots of seafood dinners. Leon and Claudia will make sure all your needs are met.

Fabulous island holiday! Food was delicious, staff friendly and efficient and the rooms were extremely comfortable and beautifully decorated. Plenty to do with snorkeling, scuba diving, kayaking, dolphin trips and supping. A really fabulous island holiday destination.

If you are booking here understand you are not booking into a 5 star island resort, it is not that and does not pretend to be. What you are getting is paradise in the middle of nowhere, there is limited accommodation so you will never be crowded. You are very well looked after the staff are super friendly and helpful, you will get the break you deserve. If you ask what is there to do in the middle of nowhere, we were there for a week and did something different every day. We defiantly will be back.

It is difficult to put in words the special moments we had at Quilalea. Claudia & her husband run the place in a way you feel like being in a friend's home. We regret not staying a couple days more. A MUST GO PLACE!

It is difficult to put down in words the experience at Azura Quilalea Private Island. The managers and staff go out of their way to make you feel special and be comfortable every moment. I think the gentleness with which they handle everything in a little isolated piece of the world is what makes the biggest difference. Everyone, absolutely everyone has a smile on their faces and every event is thought and planned with care. From our breakfast served by Jacinto who took care of us the whole week we were there, to the diving time and dive site selection, done by Predicanta, our instructor, to the Gin bar they opened one night and the surprise boba bath that we found in our room one afternoon, all was done to please, but with efficiency besides the smile, which ends up being the best combination. The island has banned plastic bottles and we were very happy to see the neighbouring coral reefs very well preserved. All in all, we definitely recommend this piece of paradise and we are already planning to return.

What a fabulous island holiday- 5 days was probably not long enough to enjoy everything that this paradise has to offer. World class diving on the doorstep of the resort with great equipment and guides to reassure you on the dive and point out the countless fish, turtles, creatures and coral. Food, staff and accommodation on Quilalea are all excellent with all staff willing to go the extra step to make the experience memorable. We performed our wedding ceremony at Villa Quilalea for which Leon and Claudia (resort managers) demonstrated the spirit of the staff at Quilalea to make our stay memorable by standing in as our wedding celebrant and photographer, and the entire experience was magical.

We loved our stay at Quilalea - we were treated like royalty- nothing was too much for the hosts and staff. Memorable moments - eating under the baobab trees, bonfires on the beach- the gin bar!! Thank you.

What a beautiful spot to end our honeymoon. The island is beautiful, and there is enough diving, snorkeling and paddle boarding to keep you entertained. If you are in Africa and fancy some beach time and a change of pace this is an excellent option.

Had three wonderful nights here at this amazing remote hideaway. The atmosphere and environment was simply relaxing and just breathtaking. Our lodge was just so nice and gives you such a feeling of privacy. The facilities were well kept and maintained and they had so many activities for us to do (snorkeling and kayaking for example). No words can describe how fascinating this place was. Well done to the management of this heavenly place and to all the staff who made our stay very memorable. Will be back one day again. (P.S. getting here was a mission due to its location, but it's well worth it!)
