Some of the most magnificent hiking trails with unrivalled views of sea, forest, waterfalls and lagoon will leave you breathless. Our Salt River trail is a favourite add-on to the famous Otter Trail (one we fondly call our "mini otter"). If you are an early riser, you may be lucky enough to spot our resident family of otters on the beach or scrambling over the rocks. Regular Bush Buck and Bush Pig sightings in the village will enthrall you and there is always the chance of the elusive leopards that hide out in the forest.
Nature's Valley is one of the top birding sites for the casual birder or the ardent "twitcher" with sightings of the Knysna Turaco (Lourie), Narina Trogon, Blackheaded Oriole, African Black Oystercatcher & the ever elusive African Finfoot, just to name a few of the specials in the area. Nature's Valley is a small village situated at the mouth of the Groot River at the bottom of the Groot River pass alongside the Groot River estuary and forms part of the Tsitsikamma De Vasselot nature reserves.
The local community is striving to to minimize inappropriate development in the area in order to minimize environmental impact.
Arguably the most beautiful part of the Garden Route in South Africa, Nature's Valley is unique in that it lies nestled in the Tsitsikamma National Park coastal forest, - the only residential area within a South African National Park. BIRDS OF EDEN: The largest single free-flight aviary in the world, it incorporates an indigenous forest with waterfalls and elevated walkways. Visit the TSITSIKAMMA SECTION of the GARDEN ROUTE NATIONAL PARK where the famous Otter Trail begins as it ends right here in Natures Valley. OTTER TRAIL: The trail is 42,5kms long and takes 4 1/2 days to complete. It follows the rugged, rocky shoreline ranging in elevation from sea level to a height of more than 150m. Most of the trail follows cliff tops returning to sea level to cross rivers
WHALE AND DOLPHIN BOAT CRUISES: The Plettenberg Bay area is world famous for the amount of marine life it has to offer in its bay. Come explore our bay on a 2-hour trip to search for Whales, Dolphins, Seals and other marine life. Our Winter season is the main Southern Right Whale migration time where whales are abundant in our waters. Dolphins are seen year round.
ELEPHANT PARKS: There are two different elephant parks in the area, offering two very different experiences, come and chat to us in reception for more information and booking.
TENIKWA: This wildlife awareness centre offers close encounters with smaller indigenous cats, cheetah and other endangered wildlife and birds, while supporting our wildlife rehabilitation programme. Take a guided tour to meet captive-bred felines, living in a semi-natural environment.
SCUBA DIVING: There are numerous fantastic dive sites departing from Plettenberg Bay or from the Tsitsikamma National Park. Snorkelling routes are also available in the National Park.
YACHT SAILING CHARTERS: Sail the beautiful Knysna lagoon on the magnificent ?Outeniqua? luxury yacht. There a number of cruising options available.
