"Auberge Alouette Guesthouse" the building, dates back to the 1930's and the interior decor portraits the romance and ambiance of that time. Although showing off the warmth of wooden floors and doors from the previous century, the guesthouse facilitates the comfort of the 21st century.
Because of the height of the ceilings, air- conditioning is not needed and ceiling fans circulate fresh air throughout the year.
Wall heaters in all the rooms and a fire-place in the lounge ensure a cozy atmosphere in the winter months.
A fridge for cold water and ice and tea-and coffee facilities are available to all guests in the spacious corridor.
Start the day with a hearty cooked breakfast before setting out on a day of fun and wonderful experiences. Or take a refreshing dip in the swimming pool while sun bathing in the privacy of the Pool Parlour or after a body massage in the Spa.
After a day of making unforgettable memories to take back home, guests can return to a place where they can rejoice and relax in the splendour of homeliness, sincere warmth and the service of friendly and caring staff.
Meet fellow tourists in the comfortable lounge or on the front veranda while enjoying the beauty of the sunset with a glass of wine from one of the many wine estates in the valley.

Take note that the Big 5 also roamed this area at that stage.
At the Huguenot Memorial and Museum you will learn more about the French Huguenots who fled their country because of their religion and then settled in this corner between the mountains, leaving us a heritage of culture;
Go back into time when observing the artifacts in the museum at Solms Delta that were found in the Delta, as well as the impact slavery had on the country and its people.
Car fans will be fascinated by the selection of vintage cars dating from 1915, that are displayed at L'Ormarins Car Museum;
Make use of the opportunity to admire work of the famous South African artist 'Pierneef' at the La Motte Art Gallery;
Connoisseurs in wine will rave on the quality of wines at the different prestigious wine cellars on the Franschhoek Wine route - some historical farms and the other boutique-size and modern;
Walking trails into the mountains offer nature lovers the opportunity to get to know the "fynbos" - so unique to this part of the Western Cape.
And last but not least:
Golfers can explore and play a wide range of excellent golf courses within a radius of 30 kilometers from Franschhoek;
Fun-lovers will enjoy the extraordinary experience of 'Wine-tasting on horseback";
A tour on bicycle through the village will thrill the 'energetic' whilst the 'sweet tooth' will prefer a different kind of tasting offered by the Belgium chocolate shop... and leave the Valley with sweet memories and a longing to come back to Franschhoek some day...

This is such a beautiful and well run town, with an abundance of wine and good food! Would highly recommend this for any visitors seeking a break from the hustle and bustle of city life. Or just want a romantic weekend away. It is on the pricey side, so be prepared to pay a bit for a meal and drinks. Otherwise have fun!
