"Auberge Alouette Guesthouse" the building, dates back to the 1930's and the interior decor portraits the romance and ambiance of that time. Although showing off the warmth of wooden floors and doors from the previous century, the guesthouse facilitates the comfort of the 21st century.
Because of the height of the ceilings, air- conditioning is not needed and ceiling fans circulate fresh air throughout the year.
Wall heaters in all the rooms and a fire-place in the lounge ensure a cozy atmosphere in the winter months.
A fridge for cold water and ice and tea-and coffee facilities are available to all guests in the spacious corridor.
Start the day with a hearty cooked breakfast before setting out on a day of fun and wonderful experiences. Or take a refreshing dip in the swimming pool while sun bathing in the privacy of the Pool Parlour or after a body massage in the Spa.
After a day of making unforgettable memories to take back home, guests can return to a place where they can rejoice and relax in the splendour of homeliness, sincere warmth and the service of friendly and caring staff.
Meet fellow tourists in the comfortable lounge or on the front veranda while enjoying the beauty of the sunset with a glass of wine from one of the many wine estates in the valley.

In Room Facilities:

Five en-suite luxury rooms with the best of quality Queen size beds and crisp pure percale linen and towels guarantee a night's rest one can dream of.
One of the rooms also offers self-catering facilities for the more independent traveler.
A writing/dressing table and chair, reading lamps on both sides of the bed, a cupboard for clothing, electric shaving points for the gents and hairdryers for the ladies as well as TV's are present in all the rooms.

Area Information:

Auberge Alouette Guesthouse is situated in a beautiful garden with magnificent views on the gigantic mountains embracing the valley and is only a few minutes walking distance from the Main road where some of the best restaurants in South Africa and shops with a variety of memorabilia are promising a wonderful rendezvous of eating and shopping experiences.
We are 59 km from the Cape Town International Airport; 79 km from the centre of Cape Town city.
Neighboring Towns to visit are Paarl and Stellenbosch.
Beaches close-by are Somerset Strand and Gordon's Bay 50 km and Hermanus 102 km.

Property Facilities:

TRANSFERS from and to Cape Town International Airport and to local restaurants can be arranged by the front desk.
TOURING: Because Franschhoek is so centrally situated,
distances between the different visiting points are easily covered by car and visits to interesting spots in and around the Valley, the rest of the Winelands and even so far as Hermanus (Whale city of SA) and the Peninsula (Cape Town and surrounds) can be done within one day. Options for day tours are available at the front desk, should you wish to sit back to enjoy the scenery. If you decide to travel to the Garden route or the West Coast, arrangements and bookings for accommodation further afield can be made by the in-house All Over Tours' operator.

WELLNESS - IN ALOUETTE SPA DU MEDECIN
Contact Alouette Spa Du Medecin for a hip, knee or shoulder replacement, dental or cosmetic surgery, a gastroscopy and/or a colonoscopy. We will arrange the contact between yourself, your own medical practitioner and the SA specialist on our list for the procedure to be done here in South Africa. After-care packages in Auberge Alouette are also available.

Attractions:

The moment you hear "Franschhoek", wine-tasting and dining-out come to mind!
A visit to Franschhoek will however present you with a rich history of this area - as from the first days of the Cape of Good Hope.
Get to know all the interesting facts about the Khoisan and Hottentots, the only original inhabitants of this area before the Europeans set foot on the soil of Cape of Good Hope in the 17th Century.
Take note that the Big 5 also roamed this area at that stage.
At the Huguenot Memorial and Museum you will learn more about the French Huguenots who fled their country because of their religion and then settled in this corner between the mountains, leaving us a heritage of culture;
Go back into time when observing the artifacts in the museum at Solms Delta that were found in the Delta, as well as the impact slavery had on the country and its people.
Car fans will be fascinated by the selection of vintage cars dating from 1915, that are displayed at L'Ormarins Car Museum;
Make use of the opportunity to admire work of the famous South African artist 'Pierneef' at the La Motte Art Gallery;
Connoisseurs in wine will rave on the quality of wines at the different prestigious wine cellars on the Franschhoek Wine route - some historical farms and the other boutique-size and modern;
Walking trails into the mountains offer nature lovers the opportunity to get to know the "fynbos" - so unique to this part of the Western Cape.
And last but not least:
Golfers can explore and play a wide range of excellent golf courses within a radius of 30 kilometers from Franschhoek;
Fun-lovers will enjoy the extraordinary experience of 'Wine-tasting on horseback";
A tour on bicycle through the village will thrill the 'energetic' whilst the 'sweet tooth' will prefer a different kind of tasting offered by the Belgium chocolate shop... and leave the Valley with sweet memories and a longing to come back to Franschhoek some day...

The village vibe and how safe it is. Also, everyone can walk to where they want to go, instead of getting into a car every time.

What a fantastic experience on the Franschoek Wine Tram! 10 stars from us. Take some time to research which estates you would like to visit to choose the best route. We chose the Grey route and stopped at Franschoek Cellar, Leopards Leap and Rickety Bridge as these were all child friendly options. We will definitely be back without the kids ;) Also, great service and food at the River Café.
