You will immediately feel at home as you slow down to the relaxed pace of country life and take time to experience simple beauty, the attention to detail, the small unexplained things, the odd shaped rooms, the garden with quirky stone men, the cool and inviting lounge leading onto a large shaded garden with swimming pool, bedrooms with French doors and shutters opening into the garden - the harshness of the Karoo that gives you grace in the evening and gentleness in the morning.
Our guest accommodation and facilities are separate from our own, affording our guests a level of privacy not normally associated with a guesthouse.

In Room Facilities:

Each of the 5 air conditioned guest rooms has its own special character with en-suite bathrooms. After breathing the fresh country air, you’ll sleep soundly in the comfortable beds with crisp percale linen. Fully equipped with tea and coffee making facilities, en-suite shower, air-conditioning, TV and private entrances.

Area Information:

Prins Albert is an oasis where water from the Swartberg runs through the lei water sluits patiently coaxing gardens and orchards to life from the harsh African wilderness. It is a record of South African rural life over the last two centuries. Essentially a farming town, it is inhabited by people who live close to the earth and who are protective of the Heartland of South Africa. An excellent infrastructure and crime free environment preserves its history and natural beauty. There is a nameless quality of life here that has lured visitors from around Southern Africa and the globe to return to make it their home. Prins Albert and its surroundings offer attractions for everybody from hikers and bikers, to birdwatchers, stargazers and botanists. Artists & writers find themselves enthralled by the stark and dramatic beauty of the endless plains and the towering peaks.
The last 150 years of South African rural history is captured in its 14 national monuments and eclectic mix of Cape Dutch, Victorian and Karoo architecture. More than anything else it is a place to slow down, forget the hectic pace of urban life and rediscover the bare essentials such as sunsets & thunderstorms over the plains, clear morning air & night skies crowned with stars. The high wide sky and broad landscapes have infused the community with a peacefulness and patience which has equipped them to endure past hardships and prepared them to face any eventuality. From the famous Prins Albert Ghost Walk to what's showing at the Showroom Theatre there is a multitude of things to do in our beautiful village.

Property Facilities:

The inviting sparkling pool provides a sanctuary on hot summer days. The shady garden has braai facilities and a bar. The dining room has a large ceramic fireplace for winter, and our library in the guest lounge offers books to suit every taste.

Attractions:

Day Trips ... MyShire Farm - The journey to MyShire will delight your senses...
Situated in the Weltevrede Valley 30 km from Prins Albert, it is an untarred road taking you through breathtaking scenery - past one of the largest fruit production farms in the region, take note of the sign asking you to slow down due to "dust on the fruit trees", then onto the Rooinek pass where you must stop and experience “our valley of 1000 hills” with the multi-shades of greys and a dirt road that goes on forever. Continue onto the T Junction here you will discover Weltevrede Fig Farm which is one of the first fig farms in South Africa, turn right and continue for a further 2 km you will see the sign MyShire Farm, bare to the right cross over the Lei water sluit. You will reach MyShire gate with a sign that says ‘Please keep the gate closed horses at play’.

We did a road trip from Johannesburg, spending one night in Prince Albert at Onse Rus. During my email communications, with Leonard prior to arriving there, he was extremely helpful, supplying us with information on the surrounding area and asking if we would like help with a dinner reservation, which we gladly accepted. Our accommodation was upgraded and we had an extremely comfortable suite with everything we needed for our overnight stay. We had a really delightful breakfast the next morning next to the pool and found both Leonard and Neil delightful company and very easy to chat to. Leonard gave us an excellent tip on a more scenic route (N 43) from Worcester to Cape Town rather than taking the N1. We can heartily recommend a stay over at this historic old Homestead.

Lovely little gem of a town. Lots of things to do, eateries and little shops and galleries to visit. At the base of the most spectacular mountain pass in all Africa.

The charm and character of this town impressed me. The Karoo gardens are beautiful and there are interesting local products for sale. I recommend the book shop in Marlene's home.
