Tulbagh Reviews
Scenery
Wine, scenery, sunset
Beautiful, historic and quaint little town. Stroll down church street and have a roosterkoek at Kole & Deeg. Highly recommend the Gin Yard at Vindoux wine farm. The Spar gets ridiculously busy on long weekends so rather come prepared unless you want to stand in line for 30 mins. The Tulbagh Nursery is awesome if you’re into gardening and plants. And take the Bain’s Kloof pass if you want a beautiful scenic route!
The quaint town, the beautiful scenery, the olive tasting.
Everything!
Wine, the history side.
We found Tulbagh to be close enough to Cape Town for a quick weekend away with family & friends.
Clean town with stunning wine farms, wine tasting and lovely restaurants.
Very picturesque with great hiking, mountain biking trails.
Lots of convenient shops in the town.
Can't wait for our next visit.
We loved our Sunday lunch at Tulbagh Hotel and Champagne tasting at Krone.
We went to Essere lodge for a weekend and loved it! Have done many wine tastings at the surrounding farms, love going there often.
The peacefulness in Tulbagh.
More info about Tulbagh
A beautiful heritage town that blossomed out of an earthquake disaster, Tulbagh is situated in a valley labelled ‘Het land van Waveren’ (the country of Waveren) by a Dutch governor who travelled here in 1699. Waveren was a prominent family from Amsterdam at the time. The governor granted land to Dutch families and a village developed over time.
Tulbagh is named after a later governor of the Cape, Ryk Tulbagh, an intellectual and popular leader with the people. The town is deep in a valley ringed by 5 separate mountains ranges, the perfect environment for the growing of wheat, deciduous fruit and grapevines.
In 1969 Tulbagh experienced a massive earthquake of roughly 4.5 in magnitude (6.3 on the Richter scale), and much of the town was destroyed. It took a few forward-thinkers to realise that a restoration project rather than a rebuild should follow and an entire road of beautiful Cape Dutch-style homes were... Show more
