The stunning countryside suburb of Bethal is one of South Africa’s loveliest destinations. Clean air, nature at its finest and warm hospitality are just a few of the ingredients that make this part of the world so special. Located in the stunning province of Mpumalanga, Bethel is terrifically convenient as it has easy access to a number of wonderful cities and attractions namely Secunda, Ermelo, the world-famous Kruger National Park, as well as the major metropolises such as Durban and Johannesburg.
Bethal, which finds itself in the breathtaking Cosmos Country, was named after two sisters Alida Naude and Elizabeth du Plooy who were both married to the two farmers who owned the first farm on which Bethal was proclaimed. Today, Bethal is an agricultural town of note and is a prized potato producing region in South Africa. In fact, the town still hosts its annual National Potato Festival in May attracting visitors from all over the country; this event is a unique gathering showcasing and promoting the talents of a diverse group of South Africans. Another major industry in Bethal is mining; it contains 3 gold mines and 20 coal mines, which are always exciting to tour and explore.
As Bethal is a scintillating agricultural community, visitors to the area are encouraged to go on a fun-filled and insightful agricultural tour. During this tour, guests will be taken on an excursion to the Rusticana Holstein Dairy Farm where they can have the thrill of watching 26 cows milked in just 6 minutes! The delicious dairy produce sold at this farm is also totally worth the visit. Other areas of note when visiting Bethal include the Bethal Museum and Memorial Square where Boer soldiers, slain in a nearby battle, are buried.
