Gariep Dam Reviews
Views over the dam. The dam itself.
The view and lovely nature.
Sundowners at pool and bar area. Amazing views of Gariep Dam
Amazing to view the dam overflowing.
The location is good when you want to overnight on the trip between Johannesburg and Cape Town. The town itself is a bit dreary - all precast homes that date from when the dam was built - but you don't go there to be indoors.
We were there just before full moon, and the moon on the water was lovely. The dam itself is very impressive.
Boat cruise was nice.
Ek bly gereeld hier oor. Die vriendelike personeel is uitstekend. Die kamers is netjies jy het alles wat nodig is selfs al bly jy vir paar dae daar. Sal Gariep Inn aanbeveel.
Beautiful scenery and open places or spots to make a braai or fire. Wonderful.

There is something both soothing and exciting about a holiday next to the ocean, river or lake. A large body of water offers both relaxation and tranquility, perfect for holidaymakers looking to escape the stresses of their lives back home. This is why so many people flock to beaches, rivers and dams, to have a holiday that includes the rejuvenating influence of the ocean.
The Gariep Dam (previously known as the Hendrik Verwoerd Dam) is located along the Orange River, just east of Colesberg in the Northern Cape. The Dam is the largest storage dam in South Africa. The area surrounding the Gariep Dam nature reserve makes this area particularly attractive as a holiday destination in the Northern Cape. What could be better than a large, pristine dam, surrounded by both nature and all the comforts of home?
Across the epic expanse of water, there are many ways to occupy your holiday time. Swimming, boating, waterskiing... Show more
About Self Catering
Self Catering places can be found from rural to urban areas and can vary in what they offer. They allow plenty freedom and is a great inexpensive way to spend your holiday. They have been widely classified as a “Home away from home”. This is a good option for guests who don’t mind cooking their own food, and are looking for a more independent and flexible form of accommodation. For budget and large families, we would recommend self-catering for a more personalised experience.
