More info about Gerotek Trail

One envisages the typical 4x4 enthusiast as being the domain of tough guys but the reality is that both sexes enjoy 4x4 challenges, as seen at the Gerotek Trail outside Hartbeespoort Dam on the Gauteng and North West Province border.

The Gerotek Trail is essentially a training facility and used as a vehicle development site, however, 4x4 drivers visit in numbers to attempt the three sand courses called West, Central and Duck. All three are lots of fun and test the driver’s ability – and their vehicle capabilities – to the max. Concrete inclines are available to practice engaging of gears and a high-speed oval gives drivers the opportunity to push their vehicles to the limit. Note that the high-speed oval is not always open to the public.

The venue is used as an advanced driving facility too and most 4x4 dealers offer training courses to first time buyers for them to become familiar with the handling of their vehicle and experience typical and extreme terrain driving. For those who don’t own a 4x4 vehicle, hiring one is possible. Non-participants can picnic on the side lines while they watch the thrills & spills and appreciate the surrounding country views, with the shimmering Hartbeespoort Dam lying to the west.

The Skidpan pits drivers against one another in a time trial to test driving skills (and aquaplaning) on a wet, slippery course.

After a fun-filled strenuous day, stop in at the on-site Sidibane Restaurant for an enjoyable meal.

The Gerotek Trail is a 30-minute drive from Pretoria and 1 hour away from Johannesburg, making it an exciting day trip for the entire family.
