The British Columbia town of Golden has been aptly named for many reasons. Firstly, as it was used as a base by Major Rogers, it was named Golden City to compete with the rival Silver City nearby; later Golden City was shortened and simply became Golden. Golden has one of the most incredible scenic kaleidoscopes found throughout British Columbia as it is nestled between two of the most stunning national parks in the region - the Glacier National Park and the Yoho National Park.
The natural aesthetic infusions from both these parks are profound on Golden as the town is a breathtaking assortment of rocky mountainous terrain, glacier sculptures, and pristine landscape. Extreme outdoor adventure is very much the order of the day with a range of high octane and adrenaline pumping activities on offer. These include heli-skiing, river rafting, hang gliding, downhill skiing, horseback riding, hiking, and the ever popular ice climbing. Before venturing out into the ominous, yet exhilarating mountainous terrain, perhaps a visit to the interesting Golden Museum is the ideal preparation for the excitement that lies ahead of you.
The Golden Museum tells a fascinating and simple story about mountain exploration and river travelling in the area, as well as the historical artefacts and memorabilia pertaining to the days of railroad construction. If you're not into mountaineering or out to test the limits of your blood pressure, there are many recreational facilities within easy proximity of the town to keep you entertained. The stunning Emerald Lake is a marvellous kaleidoscope of ice glaciers and lakes, providing the visitor with a terrific opportunity for photo-taking, while golf addicts can enjoy a round of their favourite game and the numerous campsites in the region offer fantastic camping and other fun-filled activities.
