Your own Private African Retreat, Zulu Waters Game Reserve offers you the exclusive use of its 7000 acre estate, your time here tailored to create the experience you want from Africa.

Set in the foothills of the Drakensberg Mountain range in KwaZulu Natal, Zulu Waters Game Reserve, a malaria free area, promises a uniquely intimate experience with the African wilderness. To ride adventurously close to the herds of Wildebeest and Buffalo whilst on a guided game trail, casting for wild brown trout in the 15km stretch of Bushmans River or just listening to the sound of the breeze in the grasses, Zulu Waters's blend of exclusivity and adventure makes for an experience of Africa unlike any other.

Those who spend time at Zulu Waters Private Reserve are left with a sense that something in them has changed, that they are perhaps a little more than when they arrived a little more fulfilled, a little more inspired, a little more human.

There are three accommodation experiences at Zulu Waters Game Reserve, each of which has its own unique character Shaka Lodge, Nandi House and the Lake Cottage. The River Camp is the ideal day time retreat for a peaceful day's fishing or a respite from a hard trail in the saddle. Visitors to Shaka Lodge, Nandi House and the Lake Cottage are provided with a private chef. Many of the ingredients used for the meals are drawn from the Reserve itself, from venison to organic vegetables. Check the Food page for more information. Nandi House and the Lake Cottage are also available as a self catering option.

Whichever of the three venues you stay in, a unique African experience awaits in one of the most beautiful settings that the country has to offer.

Great stay in a beautiful part of the country. Loved the seclusion and quietness of the location. Interiors were top notch with all the needs catered for. Just bring your food and drink.

We loved our stay at Zulu Waters. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the area is exquisitely beautiful. On our arrival, there was a mix-up with the bookings so that the Lake cottage was not ready yet, but the staff quickly put us up in Shaka house while they got the accommodation ready, and provided us with biltong and wine to make up for it. Once the mix-up was sorted, everything was great: the accommodation is beautifully designed and in a very tranquil area, with game coming right up to the houses. We went for a horse-back game viewing, and can definitely recommend it! Will visit again.

Stayed in the Shaka Lodge for little more than a week and got blown away by the amazing surroundings topped with a five star housing. The lodge is situated on a hill overlooking the green mountains of the Drakensberg World Heritage Site, already from the balcony you can spot all sorts of animals passing by from herds of Zebras to Rhino families. There is a tennis court with stunning views which we enjoyed to use. The chef, Mbongazeli not only prepares delicious and healthy meals but also cracks jokes and rounds up the overall incredible atmosphere of the place. Beautiful getaway, absolutely recommended!

Me and my partner were in the ZuluWaters Game Reserve for two weeks. We had a very impressive stay! The service was very courteous, especially the cook was excellent. He was very flexible and served very healthy and tasty dishes.

The whole Game Reserve is very spacious and untouched. You feel very connected to nature, there is the possibility to make individual game drives or to move freely on the terrain. One has a unique, very close experience of the native animals.

For sports activities there are various training equipment and a tennis court available.
There are also numerous activities in the surrounding area (Canopy Tours, Hiking, Drakensberg mountains World Heritage,...).

ZuluWaters Game Reserve stands for an ecologically sustainable company and supports local communities.

We had one of the best holidays of our lives and can only recommend the Game Reserve!

Quiet. No disturbances, no traffic noise, no cell phones, just viewing animals all day from your private deck, watching the storms roll in.

We had a spectacular weekend surrounded by wildlife and panoramic views of the reserve. The lake house is truly a dream come true for anyone looking to truly rest and be surrounded by nature. The modern design of the house and the tranquil setting provide an ideal location to relax and leave city life behind for a few days. We even had an incredible visit from a family of rhino. This really is a beautifully preserved piece of wilderness.

We had the most incredible four day stay at Nandi House as part of our Honeymoon road trip. The scenery, amenities and wildlife is incredible. We have never been this relaxed before and cannot wait to go back again!!!
