Magoebaskloof Birders’ Cottages are located on Dragonwyck Farm in the Magoebaskloof (near Haenertsburg) on the edge of the Limpopo Drakensberg escarpment. The cottages are accessed by a 2km dirt road. The road is not suitable for very low profile cars.

In Room Facilities:

All cottages have WIFI. Robin Cottage has two bedrooms. Both bedrooms have double beds. The first room has an en-suite outside bathroom. The shower and double bath are in the open but are very private. The toilet is under cover. There is a shower and toilet within the cottage as well.
The second room has a double bed on the mezzanine level with two single beds on the lower level. Its bathroom is indoors. Linen and towels are provided. The cottage is not serviced.
Narina Cottage has a single bedroom with a double bed plus a large couch in the bedroom suitable for younger children. It has a built- in braai/fireplace in the rondavel. The rondavel braai is perfect for those cold and wet Magoebaskloof days. Narina Cottage has an inside shower and a private outside double bath. It is fully equipped for self-catering with a gas stove, fridge/freezer, microwave and kitchen utensils. Linen and towels are provided. Narina is not serviced daily. Hot water is supplied by an electric geyser.
Trogon Cottage has a single bedroom and can have either a King size bed or two single beds depending on guests requirements. It is fully equipped for self-catering with a gas stove, fridge/freezer, microwave and kitchen utensils. Linen and towels are provided. Trogon is not serviced daily. Hot water is supplied by an electric geyser.
Trogon Cottage has a splash pool.
The cottages are no-smoking zones and smokers are kindly requested to smoke outside. Unfortunately no pets are allowed.

Area Information:

Today, much of the forests remain and the grasslands are mostly planted with avocado, macadamia and bluegums. The property is usually below the mountain mist yet out of the intense lowveld heat. We do experience very wet conditions in summer.

Dragonwyck Farm is a working farm producing avocados, kiwis and indigenous plants. We practise natural farming methods and as a result have many birds and animals coexisting with us on the farm. We do our best to offer our guests peace and quiet and the opportunity to get the most enjoyment from our environment. Each cottage is surrounded by indigenous plants providing the ideal habitat for many birds and animals. There are walks on the farm which follow the streams and provide access to escarpment forest.

Property Facilities:

The kitchens are fully equipped for self-catering with a gas stove, fridge/freezer and microwave. A braai stand is supplied. We supply firewood for the indoor fireplaces, please bring your own braaiwood or charcoal. The cottages are no-smoking zones; smokers are kindly requested to smoke outside. Regret no pets allowed.

Attractions:

Woodbush forest, one of the premier birding spots in South Africa, is a short drive away. Both grassland and bushveld habitats are also a short drive away. There are a number of scenic drives in the district for excellent bird watching opportunities. Fishing and mountain biking are on offer in the Haenertsburg area.

We had a lovely time in the cottage cozying up with the fire. The outside bath was a lovely to spot to spend time in the sun reading a book and the walks were lovely. We did get rather lost though so make sure you stick to the MBC signs.

A High Clearance Vehicle would make the drive to the cottages much easier, but I think generally in Magoebaskloof having a HCV would be useful.

Fantastic stay in a very secluded part of the kloof. Mark and staff are very helpful. Will surely visit again to walk the river walk once more.

Well equipped Cottage. Very good bed-spacious, comfortable with a delightful plunge pool and a romantic bath outside-weather permitting. Owner's delightful and very helpful.
Great place to get away from it all.
Was allowed to Bird ring which was a huge plus for me.
Bird life magnificent plus lovely walks in and around.
Highly recommendable!

We loved our stay at Lind-End, we stayed in the Studio which was very pleasing with its modern decor and facilities. Apple TV with Netflix, Prime Video and Showmax. A Braai Area, and a outside deck with an amazing view of the George's Valley. They have a gorgeous pool on the site which is shared with other guest, we were lucky that we had the farm to our self for the most part. Our host Samantha was excellent, and provided us with lots of ideas of what to do in the area. We enjoyed many walks in the mist and rain and in the sunshine right from outside the Lind-end Gate, and also loved the Louis Changouin Trail from Haenertsburg. Would definitely be back again.
