After we built a log house we decided that not all accommodation on the farm should look alike so we decided that each room should have a unique theme.
We then built a house in a pure West Coast style and later African huts (the Tokolosh kraal) where guests can get together around the bonfire surrounded by the six huts in the great African tradition.
Demand for self-catering accommodation was high, so we added two outside kitchens for the convenience of our guests who prefer to cook their own meals.
The Backpackers Train, sleeping up to 24 guests, is ideal for for families and/or contractors – it has its own toilet facilities and a large kitchen with many BBQ facilities.
Our property sports a variety of farm animals, as well as an organic vegetable garden, from which we cook our delicious meals. The farm also includes a large variety of exotic birds and chickens.
In the heart of the bushveld is where you will find the peace and tranquility needed to counteract a stressful lifestyle.
All the rooms are unique with its own theme. The African huts are comfortable and cosy and very cute. The Train which can sleep up to 24 backpackers is quite a novelty and cleverly set up on its own station platform. It has a bathroom with shower and washbasin, fridge, microwave and outside BBQ facilities.
There also double rooms and family rooms which are air-conditioned with beautiful handcrafted furniture, good lighting, digital satellite TV and bathroom with shower, toilet and basin.
Thabazimbi is easily accessible from Gauteng by car or plane. The district has a large concentration of private game reserves.
With the recent addition of the Marakele National Park, it's easy to understand why Thabazimbi is one of the fastest eco-tourist growth points in the country. Some of the best game reserves are located in the area and they offer guided game drives, excellent accommodation and outstanding cuisine.
Thabazimbi means "Mountain of Iron" and was named after the discovery of iron ore reefs in the area. As the mine's activities increased the town of Thabazimbi grew and prospered around it. Huge mountains are the setting for the mine and the town that has grown around it.
The mine boasts one of the largest mining shafts in Africa and more than 2 million tons of iron ore are mined every year and hauled by train to Mittal Steel. (Mittal Steel South Africa is the largest steel producer on the African continent, producing 7,3 million tonnes of liquid steel per annum - previously known as ISCOR).
Many nature trails and hikes traverse the town's scenic bush veld surroundings and attract particularly birdwatchers and hikers. Thabazimbi is also known as the hunting Mecca of the Waterberg / Bushveld region and is visited by many local and overseas hunters. The Marakele National Park just ten kilometres out of Thabazimbi, is one of the highlights of the area.

Thabazimbi Reviews
It is a little town but it has everything that you need in the shopping centre.
The Marekele Game reserve has the Big 5 and is not as busy as the other National Parks. The main road is busy being widened.
Not bad, just a small town with a lot of people.
Perfect place to relax in your own corner. Small town with a lot of people though.
KhayaKwa is a beautiful restaurant.
