* Drakensberg Pumped Storage Scheme (Tuva Powerstation) Tour
The Drakensberg Pumped Storage Scheme was designed to generate electricity for 10 hours with all 4 units per day, pump water back to the top dam for 9 hours with all 4 units per day. A pumped storage scheme generates electricity during peak hours, which is every day when the demand for electricity rises. During the off-peak periods, the Drakensberg will use its reversible turbines to pump the water back to the upper reservoir, readying the system for peak periods. The power station is also a joint venture between Eskom and the Department of Water Affairs and Forestry (the Tugela-Vaal Scheme) in the transfer of water from the Thukela River to the Vaal dam. A special feature of the station is that it is constructed entirely underground with only a dam wall, lift shaft buildings and transmission lines visible at the surface. The four reversible pump turbines are situated 52 storeys below ground level.
Guided tours begin at the Drakensberg Visitors Centre with a presentation providing an introduction to Eskom followed by a detailed overview of the operational function of the power station. An interactive exhibition and brochures provide further information. The visit continues with a site tour to the station, which includes viewing the Valve Hall and the Machine Hall. The visit showcases South Africa's technology and business capability. The diversity of engineering disciplines involved in the construction and operation of the power station, make the visit of interest to a wide spectrum of audiences.

Wonderful Place with plenty to do.
Friendly Staff always assisting with whatever you need.
Will Definitely be visiting here again.
The Ezulwini Resort was amazing. The accommodations were comfortable and reception well organized and accommodating. For the price it was above expectations.
Definitely will go again.
Did not expect to have the room maintained in such good condition cleaning each day by room service was great.
We had an eight sleeper, it was excellent as far as I am concerned. All the staff are very friendly and Security do their rounds throughout the evening. It is a home away from home and the place is cleaned daily. Anyone going must ensure you take whatever food you need for the stay as the shop caters for only what is necessary. Thank you to all the staff employed at Ezulweni Berg Resort.
A lovely getaway.
We had a lovely time at Ezulwini last week. What a beautiful spot! And everyone was so friendly, even the animals! We found the resort to offer great value for money in terms of the accommodation and the facilities and were sad to leave.
Good, clean accommodation and great location.
I liked the fact that it had various kiddies entertainment facilities.
Nice cozy rooms. Nice amenities for the kids to enjoy. Very friendly, helpful and accommodating staff. A little drive away from other attractions and adventure activities in the Drakensburg.
A beautiful resort with lots of activities for the kids.
Perfect self catering accommodation in the berg.
