Thorn Tree Bush Camp is located inside the borders of Dinokeng Game Reserve (DGR) in Gauteng, City of Tswhane, Hammanskraal.

It is for the true nature lover where you can enjoy the tranquillity of nature, where the stars are brighter, where lion roars, jackal bark, bush babies cry, owl’s screeches and the insects and frogs sing and much more are often heard at night.

Get away from the hustle and bustle of busy city life, enjoy a braai or open fire under the stars with the sounds of the wild surrounding you.
Go on a game drive to search for the Big 5 (spotting all of them are not guaranteed).
Enjoy our beautiful sunrises and sunsets that colour the skies above with a palette of brilliant colours.

For those who like a more relaxed stay, where you can get closer to the sounds of nature, we have the 12 different tent camps, 2 family size camping sites and 6 wilderness camping sites available.

Fever Tree Tent (Koorsboom) accommodates 2 adults (a couple) and 2 children (age 2 - 12).
Wag-'n-Bietjie Tented Camp (Buffalo Thorn) for you, it can accommodate max 8 people.
Umbrella Thorn Family Tent (Haak-en-Steek) with en-suite bathroom which accommodates max of 5 people.
5 X Russet Tents which sleeps 2 people each (Russet 1 is for a couple).
Sickle Bush which sleeps 2 people (a couple).
Elephant Root Luxury tent with en-suite bathroom which sleeps 2 people (a couple).
Black Thorn 4 man tent camp which sleeps 4 people.
Guarri Bush which sleeps 3 people.

If you do not want to share or have a bigger group, book the whole tented camp area that accommodates 38 people.

Sit back and relax around your private fire pit, watch the stars, listen to the sounds of nature and enjoy being in the bush. Make use of the large pool, to cool off in those hot summer days.
The large boma is ideal for when you are a big group camping together that want to sit around a bonfire surrounded by the sounds of nature; it can also be used for a braai or making your own potjies on bigger scale.

Thorn Tree Bush Camp has 2 drinking waterholes that invite a variety of animals, including some of the Big 5 visits from time to time.
When it is quiet (no noise and loud music), you can almost be guaranteed visitors from the Animal Kingdom.

Go to sleep and wake up, to the sounds of the bush with a multitude of birds and insects surrounding you.
Regrettably (or is it fortunately), no television, to really escape and enjoy nature and one another's company.

For those of you that do not want to cook can find great food at 9 restaurants at the surrounding lodges.

Great set up, really peaceful site, perfect place to relax and get away from it all. Close to other places to go out to as well. Even saw a Cheetah just 200m away.

We thoroughly enjoyed the privacy that Elephant Root tent gave us. The tent was spacious, clean, comfortable and offered everything we needed. Thorn Tree is just lovely - a very friendly and peaceful place to spend a weekend away from the city. The bush sounds were incredible and we loved every moment!

It was an excellent service from the lady at reception, to the tour guide un till we left. It was our first time camping, so our expectations were completely different from what we got. The elephant tent made us to feel at home.

We had an absolutely amazing Easter weekend. Our kids first Camping experience and truly 5 star I must add. The camping site is in immaculate condition and Rodney's sister who was managing the site for the weekend was amazing. We will most certainly be going back. It's a hidden gem and not even an hours drive from Johannesburg, perfect for a weekend breakaway from the city.

As I was in South Africa for my first time and only having the weekend as free time I was so excited to find a Big 5 reserve so close to Jo'burg. The park didn't disappoint with so many sightings and the Thorn Tree Camp was Glamping at it's best. Hosts were fantastic and you really could ask for more. I will be back!

We had the most amazing stay with our two young boys, aged 4 and 6. If you have young children and you want a value for money big 5 bush experience close to Jhb/Pretoria then this stunning camp is your answer.

We heard hunting gunshots while we stayed at Hatneesfontein Guest Farm. Ruined it for us. Will not go back there for that reason.

Mongane lodge's game drive was great. Good sightings. We liked the Safari mall where we could purchase some needed stuff. We found the map of the reserve a bit confusing, but overall we really enjoyed the self drive route. There are also a lot of lodges that offers game drives. Some are also open to people who are doing the self drive route for refreshments.
