In Suurbraak, on the other side of the river, is the quaint self-catering cottage, “Bibi’s Joy”, belonging to Peter and Bibi Present. Its appeal lies in its solitude and the fact that the mountain is its backyard. This set-up is ideal for the avid outdoors-person, as mountain-biking, hiking, cross-country running, cycling, and even swimming and canoeing depending of the water level of the river, can be practised with ease.
In Room Facilities:Accommodation comprises two en-suite bedrooms (and a third bathroom that can be accessed from the lounge) with double beds and bedding. There are eight sleeping stretchers, with bedding, available for the kids. The sunny and spacious living room comprises a fully furnished lounge with built in fireplace (as well as a closed combustion fireplace) and kitchen with Dover Stove, fridge and crockery and cutlery. 20 pieces of wood are included in the price (additional wood can be purchased on site), and there is also a gas stove.
Area Information:Nestled at the foothills of the lush and beautiful Langeberg Mountains, lies the picturesque little town of Suurbraak. Just outside of Swellendam, Suurbraak is home to a small farming community of hearty people and is the charming thoroughfare of the DC 200; a popular annual cycle race.
Property Facilities:There is a geyser with hot water, and the lights are solar powered. Outside in the tranquil garden there is a carport for one car and misters for those hot summer days. Our manager will take care of you upon your arrival, and you are free to contact us at any time should you require any further information.
The charming cottage has a lovely garden with a firepit and many indigenous plant species and ancient oak trees.
This is a haven for birders, as even the odd kingfisher is spotted on the property. Hoopoe’s, the Cape Robin, a variety of sugar birds, fiscal shrike, forktailed drongo’s are found here. Goats, horses and cattle on the adjacent plots add character and complement the country feel. One of the reasons the main gate must be kept closed at all times.
Stepping off the property, there's a swimming hole about 500m away, plenty scope for long walks and cycling, and the Paradise Organic Restaurant in Suurbraak itself.

What an amazing place Bibi's Joy is. True joy! Being surrounded by the beauty and sounds of nature and experiencing the animals was soul inspiring. What Peter and Bibi have achieved with the place is amazing...It's a pleasure to arrive at a place and feel welcome even before one arrives. This was my experience. Together with small things like ice in the freezer, having WiFi, and quick responses by Peter made it an even nicer experience. The view of the garden and the birds visiting are absolutely awesome. It was truly a JOY to stay there. Check it out 0 you don't want to miss it!
Lovely house on the edge of town with direct access to forest at the back of the house. The house is well furnished, clean and comfortable. The dogs loved the garden!
