The little town of Patensie lies virtually at the mouth of the Baviaanskloof Wilderness area, hidden away in the south western corner of the Eastern Cape only an hour’s drive from Port Elizabeth - it’s the last stop before entering the wilderness. A largely citrus producing community, the name Patensie is something of a corruption of the Hottentot expression ‘lêplek van die beeste’ or ‘where the cattle lie’, and because of its easy access to Baviaanskloof and nearby game farms, the area is fast becoming a place of note.

In the nearby town of Hankey you can enjoy a game of golf on the renowned 9-hole, wind-free, golf course; visit the grave of Sarah Bartman or see the largest sun-dial in Africa, amongst other attractions.
A drive through the Baviaanskloof Mega Reserve offers 120km of great scenic drives with magnificent views and a couple of country shops and restaurants to visit along the way. There are fantastic mountain biking routes, hiking routes and 4X4 courses all over this proclaimed World Herritage Site. You may be lucky enough to see baboons, monkeys, kudu or even leopard.
Kouga Dam, built in 1967, is an awesome attraction to visit; you can go and see the dam from the top and there’s a lovely picnic area at the foot of the wall.
The nearby town of Loerie hosts the Naartjie Festival annually in September. It is a great outing with loads of food stalls, fresh veggies from the farmers, live entertainment and other great attractions for the whole family to enjoy.
Port Elizabeth has an array of attractions ranging from a trip to SeaWorld, to the nearby Addo Elephant Park, a casino, boat trips to Bird Island, scuba diving and a trip on the Apple Express narrow gauge steam train takes you right back to Loerie.
The nearby towns of Jeffreys Bay and St. Francis offer great day trips where you can bathe on the beaches, surf, fish, play golf, shop or have a great meal.

Super place to stay. Love the wooden floors and the modern bathrooms.
A most relaxing stay. Sat on the stoep with a glass of wine and enjoyed the old world ambiance. Fantastic internet. Food was excellent and staff and management really friendly. Two thumbs up from me.
Ripple Hill Hotel in Patensie is definitely one of the better small town hotels that I've been to.
Rooms are very spacious and comfortable with a very nice old hotel feel.
One thing I missed though is a TV in the room.
This is an beautiful old style hotel, with great location close to the Baviaans kloof, bar and restaurant served by friendly people spacious rooms with what seemed a range of options to choose from for size and price.
Thank you to the staff and people of Ripple Hill Hotel.
The bikes were safe and sound on the terrace. This is a good hotel but isn't the town isn't a place to go walking around.
Great service with clean and well put together rooms.
We were 7 guys on a bike trip and really enjoyed our visit here. The rooms were clean and spacious. The bar offered ice cold drinks and we enjoyed the food. Really good value for your money. We will be back!
What a pleasant stay. We had a clean room with lovely linen. The room is well equipped. Even had water to drink, enough coffee and tea sachets and mosquito mats. Shampoo and a soap dispenser in the shower. The shower has a huge shower head, which was lovely. We did not enjoy any meals at the hotel, but I'm sure those would have been very tasty.
After driving through the Baviaanskloof on our way to Hogsback, this was a lovely rest stop. The bed is comfortable, the food delicious, and the staff helpful and friendly. There is free WiFi, which was welcome after being out of touch in the kloof.

I grew up in that area although I stay in East London. I visit that side every year sometimes twice a year.
