Zwakala River Retreat is a perfect place to chill and get away from the stress of the city life. Our Limpopo self-catering accommodation is simply beautiful and in some of the accommodation we have chosen not to have electricity. Instead we believe that the simplicity of candle light and lamps, steaming hot water from a donkey boiler and a 'lekka' fire make for romance, talking, dreaming and togetherness. For those of you who need electricity for reasons of your own, our newly renovated Farm House and The Barn House are connected.
In Room Facilities:All cottages are fully equipped with linen, down duvets, towels and kitchen equipment. A gas fridge and stove, hot water from either gas water heaters or from an old fashioned donkey boiler lit by our staff each morning and evening.

Reviews
We had a magical stay at Zwakala, right next to the river, so tranquil and we even caught a few fish.
Denise is a superstar and went out of her way to make our visit as comfortable as possible.
We will definitely visit again!
We had a local lager at and a good meal at the Zwakala Brewery. Our accommodation, Honey House was a 2 minute drive from the restaurant. The unit had fantastic linen and lots of attention to detail.
There is no electricity, but adds to the charm. We had the best sleep in months.
The road is difficult to drive on if you have a small city car. Next time we will take food with to braai at the cottage.
Overall this stay exceeded our expectations.
We had a wonderful 4 night stay at Zwakala River Kholo camp. The camp has a kitchen and small dining area as well as separate toilet and shower. Hot water is always available.
The fire pit and boma area is well planned and wood was provided.
We especially enjoyed the hot water in the additional outside open shower overlooking the river.
The river swim was refreshing and the kids had lots of fun.
Our host Denise was very friendly and accommodating in assisting us to charge specialized equipment at the main restaurant about 1km from the camp.
Really enjoyed our stay!
A beautiful little cottage! So quite with a beautiful view. Rustic with small little detail to make it special! ❤️
Great place to stay ! Very beautiful and relaxing environment. Zwakala Brewery is definitely also a treat ! Very friendly and helpful staff that is willing to assist in any way!
Best place to watch a rugby final !
My wife and I got married at Mina’s and we can not recommend this place more! Whether it’s for a wedding, a quiet family weekend or a few beers at the brewery, it is a fantastic option in the gorgeous Magoebaskloof area. A family run farm where you leave feeling like friends. The accommodation is wonderfully rustic farm stay in a tranquil setting. It will always be very dear to our hearts and we will be back to visit regularly.
Camping here is the most restful and soulful break for city slickers and country folk alike. The River snakes past the campsite and you sit around the fire listening to it gurgling along. Swing off the rope and plunge into its refreshing water or go for a long forest walk. If you prefer more home comforts book one of the riverside cob houses. No electricity, no WiFi, but so so cozy and relaxing you get to recharge the battery that is most important, your precious life.
No electricity. Light a fire under a donkey boiler for hot water. Cook outdoors on a open fire. Swim in the river in front of your cottage. Walk up to the craft beer brewery on the farm, the beer is great. Cycling or walk for hours on routes in the forests surrounding you. Gaze up into the star filled night sky, you might even catch one shooting through. This place is fabulous!
Stayed in the Cob house. Its basic, but fully kitted out kitchen (no electricity, you don't need it!) the most comfortable beds. The water is pipping hot. Can't wait to return there as soon as we can.
The most idyllic setting for a lodge. Pine trees, mountains, sound of the gushing water, wooden cottages by the river, fireplace, no wifi, pure bliss. Add to that the warmest hosts I have ever met so far, delicious home made food. It doesn't get any better than this.
The cottages themselves are cozy and comfortable with all the basic amenities present for a self-catered place. I am personally partial to the Cob House having stayed there twice. I think it has the best location but I might just be biased.

Forest walks by the Dap Naude dam.
Scenic.
We loved our stay at Lind-End, we stayed in the Studio which was very pleasing with its modern decor and facilities. Apple TV with Netflix, Prime Video and Showmax. A Braai Area, and a outside deck with an amazing view of the George's Valley. They have a gorgeous pool on the site which is shared with other guest, we were lucky that we had the farm to our self for the most part. Our host Samantha was excellent, and provided us with lots of ideas of what to do in the area. We enjoyed many walks in the mist and rain and in the sunshine right from outside the Lind-end Gate, and also loved the Louis Changouin Trail from Haenertsburg. Would definitely be back again.

Beautiful forests, dams and good options available to eat out!
Visited the Berry farm to pick organic Berries, and really enjoyed lunch and cheese cake at the restaurant.
Also visited Pot and Plaugh for their very famous pizza.
Scenery!!!!! Fruit!!!!
Nature!
The scenery and friendly people in Magoebaskloof.
