Area Information:

*Muldersdrift is surrounded by small farms and smallholdings and has become a centre for a great number of home craft industries and artists
*Muldersdrift has historical significance as Dr Jameson was caught and arrested here as a prisoner of war shortly after the attempted Jameson Raid on Johannesburg

*The Cradle of Humankind lies mainly in the Gauteng province with only a small part extending into the neighboring North-West province
*The site comprises a strip of dolomitic limestone caves containing the fossilised remains of ancient forms of animals, plants and most importantly, hominids
*The biggest and best-known of the caves is Sterkfontein, where over 500 hominid fossils and over 9,000 stone tools have been found

*At least seven of the twelve sites at The Cradle of Humankind have yielded hominid remains. In fact, together these cave sites have produced over 850 hominid fossil remains so to date they represent one of the world's richest concentrations of fossil hominid-bearing sites
*The scientific value of this area lies in the fact that these sites provide us with a window into the past, to a time when our earliest ancestors were evolving and changing. Scientists have long accepted that all humans had their origins in Africa

*The area was declared a World Heritage Site in 1999. Although it is on privately owned land, any finds belong to the world, and the area is strictly controlled and protected

*Other popular attractions in Muldersdrift include Bella Vallata 4x4 Playground, a 5 km off-road track specifically built to contain every type of obstacle likely to be encountered by a 4x4. This 4x4 track is a must for 4x4 owners and braai facilities are available

We were in the area to attend a wedding in Muldersdrift. This cottage was all we needed for accommodation for a weekend like this. It is neat and clean. The people we dealt with were very friendly and helpful and breakfast was very good.

We found Hartley Manor to be comfortable and homely. Instead of 2 rooms, we were upgraded to a cottage. So pleased as we were worried about my daughter staying on her own. It all worked out well.
Lovely setting and free to walk around the rose nursery.
Nice simple tasty breakfast.
Will definitely be back and would highly recommend you stay over here.

Stayed over for a wedding in the area, in a b&b room. The rooms were clean and tidy but had a funny smell. I would recommend the cottages, they looked a lot better.
Staff were extremely friendly and the breakfast was great

The property can use tidying up.

It is peaceful, however, I would have enjoyed more restaurants in the area.
