Skeiding is a working farm, situated halfway between Cape Town and Knysna on the N2, making it an ideal stopover. You’ll most likely end up wanting to stay an extra night or three. Boasting panoramic views of the Langeberg mountains, Skeiding exudes a sense of innate tranquility, old world charm and warm hospitality – ideal for a rejuvenating weekend away.
Your hosts, Neels and Anné-Lize, are two energetic people
who love life. You need to be, to be able to run a farm and a Guest House in the same lifetime.
Skeiding Guest House is your home away from home – a traditional farm house with a warm atmosphere that will make you feel part of the family.
At Skeiding we definitely don’t believe in fasting or diets! We are renowned for our authentic South African farm style cuisine, served daily in the sunny restaurant. Prepared with love in our traditional farm kitchen, Skeiding invites you to indulge your senses in “smullekker” farm breakfasts, malva pudding, homemade boerewors, flavoursome ostrich meat and so much more.
If you’re not afraid to get your hands dirty, join Neels your enthusiastic tour guide on a hands-on tour of our beautiful farm. Every tour is different and could involve feeding the ostriches, watching our sheepdogs, Jan and Miela, in action, learning about sheep, planting of crops and much more. A real education for city slickers. The farm tour usually commences at 07:30 (yes, lekker early before breakfast!)

In Room Facilities:

Honesty bar, tea and coffee making facilities, en suite bathrooms with strong showers, heater, ceiling fan, electric blankets, gowns, hair dryers, bathroom essentials, towels and good South African Port (on the house!) to enjoy on the patio as a sundowner. Six of the rooms and cottages have fireplaces for real cosiness in winter.

Area Information:

Heidelberg, Western Cape, a quiet little town on the banks of the Duivenhoks River, is the gateway to the well-known Garden Route of South Africa.

The town with its scenic beauty and interesting sights offer the traveller a quiet, rustic atmosphere, but still lies unexplored to many tourists.

Heidelberg was named after Heidelberg in Germany, where the Heidelberg Catechism originated from.

Property Facilities:

Enjoy home-cooked country cuisine prepared by Anne-Lizé and her small team of able and enthusiastic assistants. Neels is the meat "chef" on the open fire, unless farm work calls him away. A three-course menu is served every evening in the restaurant. We also spoil you with a snack when drinks get served and a palate cleanser between starter and main course. Please let us know of any dietary requirements for the best culinary experience. Also, let us know if you are celebrating a birthday or any special occasion that you would like us to cater for.

Free wifi available at the homestead.

One of the highlights of your stay will be the farm tour with Neels who has a wealth of knowledge of farming and nature which he loves sharing. Fees applicable for tour. A "hands-on" experience every morning, weather dependent, at 07:30 (duration +/-90 min). Feeding the ostriches, watching the working dogs (Border Kollie and Australian Kelpie) work with the sheep and ostriches will be some of the amazing experience while on the tour.

Enjoy the putting green (one hole golf course with only the 19th hole)

Kettie shooting range (free), 2 km hiking route, mountain biking route (conservation fee applicable), bird watching and swimming pool.

Attractions:

Why is Skeiding a unique location?
Apart from panoramic mountain views over rolling country side, ALL ROADS LEAD TO SKEIDING.

1. We are situated at the start of the Garden Route.

2. Close to the Tradouw Pass to join the Route 62.

3. Halfway between: Cape Town and Plettenberg Bay,
Cape Town and Oudtshoorn.

4. Two hours drive from Hermanus.

5. A day's trip from Hermanus:
(a) via Agulhas (the most southern tip of Africa)
(b) via De Hoop Nature Reserve and the pont at Malgas.

6. A days visit to Agulhas to the most southern tip of Africa.

7. A day's visit to the De Hoop Nature Reserve (excellent whale watching from July to November) over the only working ferry at Malgas.

8. Excellent bird watching and nature trails (2 - 10km day walks in Afromontane forest) at Grootvadersbosch Nature Reserve (12km away).
At Grootvadersbosch you also get rare and endemic species, some on the Red Data List. A scenic, but challenging mountain bike trail also awaits you here.

9. 45km from Witsand (Whale Nursery of SA) for land based whale watching (from July to November) and endless white beaches to walk on where the Breede River and Indian Ocean meets.

10. Visit Swellendam, Barrydale, Malgas, Still Bay and even Montagu!

Was a perfect stay. Cottage was exactly what I prayed for: fireplace, beautiful view, neat and quiet. Treated myself to the farm tour - awesome! Then sat down to an amazing breakfast and even though I was the only guest on a Monday night on the farm, they prepared their breakfast hall as if the farm was packed with guests. Can highly recommend this amazing farmstay and super hospitable hosts!
