Welcome to Country Cabin,

Charming holiday accommodation on the West Coast, in the hills of St Helena Bay... Country Cabin is peaceful, private and secluded, surrounded by beautiful views and stunning sunsets. Yet only a 7 minute drive takes you to the beaches, shops and restaurants. Therefore it is "the best of both worlds".

In complete privacy, the Country Cabin offers you an irresistible opportunity to enjoy the calm waters of the bay; whale and dolphin watching, boat trips up the Bergriver, and of course, hundreds of bird species to be seen. The more adventurous can go swimming, surfing, horse riding, kite-boarding, fishing, sea kayaking and "mussel jiving".

Central to the most popular tourist attractions, the Country Cabin is perfect from which to discover the West Coast and it’s surrounds. Coming home to the Country Cabin will be a treat, after a day of exploring Postberg, Tietiesbaai and quaint, picturesque small villages such as Paternoster, Elands Bay, Lamberts Bay and Langebaan - a superb way to meet with the locals and experience their culture and food. Closer still is Shelley Point with its luxurious country club and spa with a choice of restaurants and wellness centre. Enjoy sporting activities like golf, tennis & bowls.

This delightful self-catering cabin is well equipped; air-conditioned / heated. The cosy bedroom, with a double bed / bathroom, caters for one couple and can comfortably accommodate a child on the futon in the lounge. Linen/towels are provided - except for beach towels - as is an additional outside shower for use after trips to the beach. The open plan kitchen / lounge leads onto a lovely patio for you to enjoy breakfasts and sundowners, right next to the rustic boma for your braai's, whilst enjoying the glorious views. An ideal setting for walks and cycling, a little to the side is the pool where you can cool off on a warm day. Buck, duikers, hares, tortoises and a rich variety of birds keep you company.

We had a wonderful long weekend at Country Cabin. The rustic cabin has the most beautiful view of Paternoster, which makes it very tempting to just chill out on the front deck and watch the passing parade of birds and insects in Barbara’s wild garden. Although basic, we had everything we needed on hand in the kitchenette for rustling up a meal. The main attraction was the cozy Lapa where you could relax with a book or a glass of wine while the meat was braaiing over the hot coals. Our charming hostess even had a handy guide with all the local attractions, eateries and places to buy supplies. We are definitely coming again!

A perfect getaway for two, Country Cabin is tastefully decorated with Barbara's wonderfully refreshing and lively paintings. Many a visitor has left toting an artwork under his arm that he could not resist buying. Each painting has a piece of soul in it, but each one has to find a home where it satisfies the soul of someone else. The porch is just the right spot to enjoy a glass of chilled wine at the end of a perfect day whilst watching the westerly setting sun dip over the Atlantic Ocean. Better still, why not spoil your partner with a champagne breakfast and soak in the sunrise. And you never know when you will be rewarded with a peak at the indigenous fauna.

Equipped for a couple, Country Cabin is let on a self catering basis. Bring only your food and refreshments and a smile, in return for which you will experience utter peace and natural beauty and be rewarded in turn with a smile. Guests have the choice of pottering in a well equipped kitchen or stoking the fire for a barbecue. Of course, local restaurants are there for the testing and offer a choice of seafood dishes (with lobster in season).
In the bedroom there is a double bed and all linen is provided, including towels, but do bring your own bathing towels to use at the pool, please. For the fun of it, bring your bikes and spend the morning pedalling the hills, so reminiscent of the Scottish Highlands. For the more energetic, the area lends itself to hiking. Only seven minutes away you can take your pick of some of the loveliest beaches the country has to offer. The lighthouse in the Cape Columbine Nature Reserve is well worth a visit, as is the little rocky bay named Titties or Titus Bay from a coloured fisherman who had the misfortune to be drowned there. And while you are in the vicinity, maybe go out on a kayaking trip. Shuck an oyster at the nearby mariculture farm where you can learn more about these bivalve molluscs. In Sandy Point Harbour you can watch the deftness of the womenfolk as they vlek the snoek (barracuda family). Twenty minutes away is the combined municipality of Velddrif, Laaiplek where the Berg River spills out into St Helena Bay and is the ideal place to enjoy a sundowner cruise. Visit the many bak en brou tuisnywerhede that the town has to offer and stop at the West Coast Gallery for a tasty lunchtime snack or there is the ultimate option, to chill out and stay cool at the pool.

Country Cabin is a cosy and welcoming sanctuary for anyone looking to escape the busy life and get lost in the magic St Helena Bay holds.
It was such a delight to receive a wonderful warm welcome from the fabulous owner, Barbara. Hubby, our fur babies and I thoroughly enjoyed our time spent at Country Cabin, a succulent haven with rolling hills amidst vast countryside.
It was truly incredible, from relaxing on the patio, swimming in the lovely pool, to our doggies running about in utter bliss and ending off the night with a traditional braai.
Watching the sunset from the cabin over the Bay of Paternoster was remarkable. Barbara, it was stunning meeting you! We will always hold the weekend we had at Country Cabin close to our hearts. Thank you for your kindness and for the succulent spoils you sent home with us! We'll be back!

Scenic drives. Clean and modern SPAR supermarket. But generally DEAD - no coffee shops or restaurants. The hotel at St Helena was closed and Paternoster do not accept dogs at their outdoor eating facilities. The historic landmark at the landing place of Vasco da Gama at St Helena Bay was a meeting place for vagrants, and had a pile of litter and very little appeal. Nothing whatsoever to do in St Helena Bay.
