The Dinokeng Game Reserve is the first free-roaming Big 5 residential game reserve in Gauteng – and probably in the world!
It offers visitors a unique self drive experience with a 110km well maintained meandering route throughout the Reserve.

The DGR is situated on the north eastern quadrant of the Gauteng Province of South Africa between latitudes 25°40’00”S and 25°10’00”Sand longitudes 28°15’00”E and 28°40’00”E comprising currently 20 000 ha.

Hosts were fantastic. Warm welcome and always available if needed. Our 6 sleeper cabin was great. We will definitely be back.
What an awesome place. Chalets have everything you need and we'll maintained. The hosts Anita and Gunter were wonderful. Chalets overlook water hole so lots of game viewing from your deck. We will definitely be back.
Spent 3 night at this fantastic venue. The accommodation was suburb with all needs catered to. The chalets are well maintained with modern appliances. Sitting on the chalet deck at night listening to the sounds of the bush is truly special. The hosts, Anita and Gunther are wonderful people. Couldn't have asked for more and will be back.
Excellent weekend away. The weather was extremely hot and we had more sightings at Abendruhe than on the self drive. I would recommend this place for any family thats looking for a comfortable, relaxing holiday.
Thank you for a welcome getaway. We felt at home the moment we got there. Anita and Gunther really makes the stay warm and special. Our cabin was spotless, the aircon was switched on and already a cool haven after a hot day on the road. The cabins where beautiful all the small details and everything you need for a perfect weekend away from home. We really had a great time, we relaxed, enjoyed the pool and the waterhole really attracts a lot of animals so you don't even have to go far. We cannot wait for our next stay there in the new year... highly recommend.

This was our second stay at Abendruhe Lodge. We stayed in the double story cabin as 4 adults. The cabin is very well equipped and we were extremely comfortable. The hosts are welcoming and friendly and we enjoyed a great afternoon game drive with Gunther - including delicious snacks with our sundowner stop :-) We look forward to our next stay there! Highly recommended!
We thoroughly enjoyed our recent 3-night stay at Abendruhe. Anita & Gunter are friendly, helpful, welcoming hosts. The serviced chalets are very comfortable and well-equipped. We loved being able to swim or relax by the pool while still observing animals coming down to drink at the watering hole. We also had great views of the bush when braaing on the deck of our chalet. We can't wait to go back! Highly recommended!
Had an awesome stay. 2 of the best hosts I know. They made our stay very special. I will recommend it to everyone.
We left our booking for the last minute but thanks to Afristay we were booked in this beautiful lodge Abendruhe, the wooden lodge was beautifully set out, comfortable and very welcoming by the hosts. I would recommend this to everyone. Sadly we were still sleeping in and missed seeing 5 lions walking passed our lodge. Abendruhe will definitely be seeing us soon and for a longer stay.

Game drive, the stay at the lodge and the Mystic Monkeys and Feathers Zoo.
The range of animals and the map that was available.
Game Drives and self-drive routes were really cool. We enjoyed it and did not find it as bad as the previous reviews said.
The animals were a little scarce after the many rains, but we saw 9 Jackal in 2 days which is not something that happens often.
We will definitely be back.
The self drive - especially the 4x4 route.
I enjoyed it most because it was a quick break and not too far from JHB to travel and it does have the big 5.
The Nyani Lodge natural relaxation situation and Mongena Game Lodge the nature itself of animals. Location and directions were convenient and easy to get.
The game viewing on the Mongena game drive was superb!
Fresh air not far from the city and a nice getaway from the hussles of the city .
