Area Information:

Saragossa Game Reserve is located in the province of Mpumalanga. It is situated in the high Middleveld and most of it consists of rolling grassland. Mpumalanga’s escarpment and Lowveld form a transitional area between grassland and savannah biomes. Hundreds of kilometres of savannah are suddenly transformed into the densely forested ravines and waterfalls of the escarpment, only to change once again into the subtropical splendour of the Lowveld.

Saragossa Game Reserve nestles in a valley with an abundant flora and fauna. It is characterised by a rich diversity of trees and plants, ranging from the paperbark thorn tree (Acacia sieberiana) in the flatlands to the mountain cabbage tree (Cussonia paniculata) on the slopes. Fiery aloes stand sentinel on the hills.
The wildlife at Saragossa is indigenous to this area. Only a century ago, these animals still roamed freely through the valleys and flatlands.

Just a few of the species you might encounter on your visit: kudu, impala, water buck, eland, giraffe, zebra, ostriches, mountain reedbuck, blue wildebeest, blesbuck, steenbuck, duiker, blue duiker, the rare red duiker, nyala, bushbuck, hippo, caracal, black-backed jackal, civets, genets, thick-tailed bush babies, honey badgers and countless species of birds, including the Narina trogon. A list of our birds is available at the Lodge or upon request.

Property Facilities:

There is large swimming pool with Jacuzzi seats surrounded by the gardens. The pool is centrally situated for guests to use at any time. During the day drinks and snacks are served while guests can relax and enjoy the sun and stunning surroundings.
The large garden around the old farmhouse is magnificent and invites to relax on a sun lounger, to walk and enjoy the diversity of wonderful flowers, plants and fruit trees.
Indulge in a soothing massage, enjoy the refreshing pool, go on a game drive or simply relax on the veranda.

Waterval Boven Reviews

Alzabeth Mostert
19 March 2021

We want to thank Shamrock Arms for the amazing service, thorough communication and great food (with special effort to treat us to our liking) from the enquiry up until the minute we left. We were tired and emotionally going through the changes that a move normally bring. We have finally settled in and we are getting used to the traveling for shopping and other services, but we always pass Shamrock Arms with a smile!

Thank you to your staff... We mainly interacted with the manager, Martin (I apologize for not noting his surname), who went above and beyond to make our stay pleasant. He even connected us with the necessary people when we found that there was broken into our house while we were sleeping in your lovely guest house.

He was of so much assistance and he made us feel calm, while I became agitated of leaving the guesthouse for check out time, while the police were still on their way to investigate the matter at the house. Him and his seniors made special arrangements and offered us a special price for another night. My husband slept in the house to ensure no further damage and my daughter and I could spend the rest of our day and night, in the safety and luxury of shamrock arms.

Thank you! You've gone above and beyond to serve us and that sure was welcoming to our new hometown.

Furthermore, I want to personally thank you for the effort and attention to detail on the lovely clean smell to your linen. We've spent many nights in clean beds in hotels/guest houses/lodges/etc., but the 1 thing that distinguished you from them; was climbing into the bed with that strong amazing clean smell and i also found much comfort in it when I attended to my daughter during the evenings. Thank you for that extra attention to detail and expense -it made it "home away from home".

We will gladly refer you to family and friends!
