Nestled in the heart of this unhurried region of South Africa is the Desert Wind Private Game Farm. Located appropriately off the beaten track, approximately 200km from Cape Town and 40km from Montagu (its nearest town), Desert Wind is the perfect vacation haven for those who want to really get away from it all.
Our self-catering accommodation ranges from a 10 sleeper guest house (with a donkey Jacuzzi), a 4-sleeper guest cottage (linked to the main house), a 4-sleeper stone cottage and two luxurious king suites.

Our picnic areas alongside the gorge and fresh rock-pool, together with the stunning new boma braai make for special and unique dining experiences as you gaze at the blanket of stars above and marvel at the clear night sky.

You will also find it hard to beat the experience of sitting on your patio and admiring the breath taking views of the mountains, whilst drinking in the majestic silence and peacefulness of the Little Karoo region.

Property Facilities:
Being a private game farm, Desert Wind boasts a variety of game and wildlife that you can view.

There are mountain bike routes and hiking trails for you to explore and discover, a fresh rock pool to cool off in, picnic area's and a stunning boma to make dining an experience.

The Farm shop stocks an array of food and toiletry supplies, together with children's toys and unique gifts.

Stargaze at the blanket of stars in the clear night skies and you'll find it hard to beat the experience of sitting on your patio and admiring the breath taking views of the mountains, whilst drinking in the majestic silence and peacefulness of the Little Karoo region.

Area Information:
The Klein (Little) Karoo is classified as an arid region and receives less them 400mm of rain a year.

December - February (Summer)

Summer in the Klein Karoo is usually warm with temperatures ranging from 16deg C (61deg F) at night to 31deg C (88deg F) during the day. Thunderstorms also occur during this time, although these are often infrequent and irregular.

March - April (Autumn)

Possibly the best time to visit the Klein Karoo, Autumn sees the late Summer subsiding and the vegetation turning to reach colours of yellow, orange and red before cool Winter sets in. Temperatures during these months range from 12deg C (54deg F) at night to 28deg C (82deg F) during the day.

May - July (Winter)

Winter is cool with little rain. Snow can sometimes cap the high mountains of the region for short periods during the Winter months and light frost also occurs occasionally. Temperatures range from 5deg C (41deg F) at night to 19deg C (66deg F) during the day.

August - September (Spring)

Spring sees the flowers of the Klein Karoo coming out to bloom in all their glory. The northeaster also provides a refreshing breeze and brings with it warmer weather. Temperatures during these months range from 7deg C (45deg F) at night to 25deg C (77deg F) during the day.

In Room Facilities:
The farm is too remote to be supplied with power from Eskom (the national supplier), but successfully manages to avoid the noise made by generators by making use of gas and solar power instead.

All accommodation is self catering. The Large Guest house kitchen is adequately equipped with a fridge, freezer, oven and stove. It is also stocked with plenty of pots, plates and cutlery, so you will only need to bring your own food and drinks along with you.

The guest cottage, stone cottage and luxury stables suites are each equally well equipped.

Attractions:
There are plenty of things to do whilst enjoying your stay at the Desert Wind Private Game Farm. Our list of activities includes, but are not limited to:

HIKING - Enjoy the magnificent Little Karoo scenery whilst traversing any one of our several hiking trails.

GAME VIEWING- we have a wonderful collection of native Karoo wildlife that can be viewed on foot or from your car

4x4 TRAILS - Get off the beaten track and traverse one of our specialised 4x4 trails. Ideal for those who enjoy unforgettable adventure, you are welcome to use your own 4x4 vehicle.

We had a wonderful stay. The guest house was more than enough. The farm manager was very professional and made sure we were comfortable. This place is amazing if you want to get away from the busy city life. Amazing views of the night sky and so peaceful.
