Mount Ceder has 6 fully equipped self catering houses, sleeping up to 6 guests and 5 fully equipped self-catering cottages, sleeping 2 to 4 guests, as well as lovely campsites each with their own ablution facility

Property Facilities:
The Old Mill House Restaurant provides hearty dinners, breakfasts and light lunches if you don't want to cook. The little on-site store supplies essentials and local olive and fruit products.

Mount Ceder has so much to offer: hiking, river-swimming, canoeing, mountain biking, as well as exploring the local rock art.

Area Information:
The Cederberg region is only two and a half hours from Cape Town and yet the landscape is completely different from that of the Mother City: wilder, warmer with a raw, dramatic beauty.

The mountain range is named after the endangered Clanwilliam Cedar (Widdringtonia cedarbergensis), which is a tree endemic to the area. The mountains are noted for dramatic rock formations and San rock art.

The dominating characteristic of the area is sharply defined sandstone rock formations (Table Mountain group), often reddish in colour. This group of rocks contains bands of shale and in recent years a few important fossils have been discovered in these argillaceous layers. The fossils are of primitive fish and date back 450 million years to the Ordovician Period.

The Cederberg has an exceptional botanical diversity, being part of the Cape Floral Kingdom of South Africa, and among the twisted rock formations, farmers cultivate the world-famous healthy rooibos tea, found only in the Cederberg of South Africa. A visit to a rooibos farm is a delightful addition to a day trip from Mount Ceder.

In Room Facilities:
All houses and cottages are fully equipped with linen, towels, cutlery, crockery a fridge, stove and microwave. There is a fireplace inside and a braai area outside each house and cottage.
Firewood available for purchase.
Cleaning service on request.

Attractions:
The area is full of additional hiking trails, 4x4 routes, and unique rock formations.

What a lovely cottage we had with two fire places. We had a whale of a time. Will definitely make use of Mount Ceder Lodge if we ever go that way again. Thank you very much.

We booked the three camping sites, each with its own shower, toilet and covered kitchen.
We only used two of them because the one party had to cancel.
The facilities were excellent, clean and in excellent working order.
The sites are far apart and it is quiet and you feel isolated, which is what we wanted.
We will definitely camp there again.

We camped at 1 of the 3 camping spots available.

Each site has its own outside kitchenette and ablution facilities. The sites have enough distance between them to ensure privacy.

The sound of water running in the Groenrivier adds to the tranquility.

Not only is this a beautiful setting, but the staff are hospitable.

We can definitely recommend their mouth watering home cooked meals at the restaurant. Book 24 hours in advance.

We'll be back...

Everything about the place was fantastic, the bike/walk up the valley road was great. The river swimming was fab, accommodation was fab as well, could do with some better reception staff or better customer service training, apart from that it was great.

We stayed for 5 nights at Puntjie Cottage over the festive season and this was truly the best place for an escape of the Festive craziness. We were able to turn off, relax and enjoy the spectacular views. The staff are very helpful and friendly, the cottage is beautifully decorated with everything you need.

The only constructive comments I would put forward is for some shade cloth by the jacuzzi so you can roll it down in the afternoon when the scorching sun is over the jacuzzi. Another would be for more hiking trails in and around the property - they don't need to be long trails to a destination but just loops possibly to the top of the peaks around the cottages. We loved the hikes to the Waterfall and Bushman Paintings!

Thank you for an amazing time, we will be in contact soon to book for next December!

My husband and I stayed at Mount Ceder in July 2017. What a beautiful setting. An oasis in the middle of the barren but beautiful Cederberg area of the Cape Province, on the boarders of the Tankwa Karoo. Plenty of scenic walks, mountain biking, swimming in their river and lots of wildlife and birds. Great meals can be prepared. Gladson, at the front desk, was helpful and professional at all times. We will be back!
