Walkerbouts Inn - Rhodes is a home-from-home with warm, comfortable accommodation, cosy pub, fine country cuisine and hospitality in the best traditions of the "Platteland"
In Room Facilities:All rooms are en-suite, have panel heaters and electric blankets on all of the beds to ward off the winter chill.
Area Information:Rhodes is located in the real Southern Drakensberg and being close to the escarpment, is subject to rapid and radical changes in the weather. The roads to Rhodes are gravel, narrow and winding and must be driven with care. Fuel is not always avaialble in the village so fill up in the last town before embarking to Rhodes.
Property Facilities:Rhodes is a historic village located in the southernmost section of the Drakensberg mountain range. It is remote, not for sissies and an hour's drive from Barkly East. The nearby Tiffindell Ski Resort provides snow skiing in winter, when open. |n summer (weather willing) fly-fishing on more than 200km of running water within an hour's drive of the village can be arranged at Walkerbouts. It is an outdoor enthusiasts paradise - rare insects, birds and plants attract folk from far and wide. 4x4 routes, highest pass in South Africa, rock art and stunning scenery are but a few of the attractions.
Attractions:The entire village is a National Monument, proclaimed in 1997 to conserve the Victorian streetscape. The nearby Naudesnek Pass is also a National Monument and is the highest pass in South Africa. Mountain passes are the hallmark of the region and all of which can be experienced as day drives from Rhodes. The surrounding mountains are home to a wealth of floral and avian species, several of which are rare.

Rhodes Reviews
Great old Victorian settlement.
Quiet village atmosphere and the mountains.
Beautiful area, great people and fantastic roads for adventure biking!
The scenic beauty of the area is spectacular. The road from Barkley East was quite bad in places, and it took a long time to travel, the town is almost empty of residents, with a "closed up" feeling. No coffee shops or restaurants available in town. It is a good birding destination for high altitude special species, but high clearance vehicle is necessary, and 4x4 is essential for travel along Naude's nek pass.
Amazing scenery. Naudes Nek was an awesome experience. Hours of dirt road getting in and out of Rhodes though - suggest 4x4 only.
