Area Information:

Noordhoek is a suburb of Cape Town, South Africa, located below Chapman's Peak on the west coast of the Cape Peninsula, approximately thirty-five kilometres to the south of the city itself. The name "Noordhoek" was taken from Dutch and literally means "north corner". It is best known for its picturesque shoreline and its long, wide, sandy beach, which stretches south to the neighboring village of Kommetjie. Noordhoek is a small scattered community of nice houses, often with sea views and has a large horse population as riding on the long sandy beach is a great attraction. Noordhoek can be accessed either from the spectacular scenic coastal road, Chapman's Peak Drive, which leads out of Hout Bay or via the mountain road Ou Kaapse Weg which cuts through the beautiful Silvermine Nature reserve - now part of the Table Mountain National Park.

This is a truly special experience. After you have fallen in love with the penguins head to the secluded Boulders Beach and take a swim in the comparatively warm waters of the False Bay. Cape Point: Cape Point is in the Cape of Good Hope nature reserve within Table Mountain National Park, which forms part of the Cape Floral Region, a World Heritage Site. It includes the majestic Table Mountain chain, which stretches from Signal Hill to Cape Point, and the coastlines of the Cape Peninsula. This narrow stretch of land, dotted with beautiful valleys, bays and beaches, contains a mix of extraordinarily diverse and unique fauna and flora. Cape Point was named the ‘Cape of Storms’ by Bartolomeus Dias in 1488. The ‘Point’ was treated with respect by sailors for centuries. By day, it was a navigational landmark and by night, and in fog, it was a menace beset by violent storms and dangerous rocks that over the centuries littered shipwrecks around the coastline. In 1859 the first lighthouse was completed; it still stands at 238 metres above sea-level on the highest section of the peak and is now used as the centralised monitoring point for all the lighthouses on the coast of South Africa. Access to this historical building is by an exhilarating three-minute ride in the wheelchair-accessible Flying Dutchman funicular that transfers visitors from the lower station at 127 meters above sea-level, to the upper station. Kalk Bay: Kalk Bay is one of Cape Town’s trendiest seaside villages and reflects a cosmopolitan heritage and a long fishing history. There is a relaxed arty vibe, a growing nightlife, with great theater and the art, architecture and cuisine are much sought after. Kalk Bay is also a hub of outdoor action – from sea fishing to angling; one of the best reefs in Cape Town for surfers and the fascinating Kalk Bay caves for land and foot adventures or catch the water taxi to Simon’s Town for a novel transport experience. Winelands of Constantia and the Peninsula: Explore the beautiful and historic Groot Constantia Vineyard (taste Napoleon’s favourite wine here), the lovingly restored Buitenverwachting Vineyard which lives up to its name meaning ‘beyond expectation’ and also Steenberg Vineyard which holds the distinction of being the oldest farm in the Constantia valley. These Vineyards are considered to be in the heart of South Africa’s premier wine growing region.
