For starters Swellendam has some of the best cycling routes in the Overberg district. We also have spectacular hiking trails, said to be a ‘must’ on any hiker’s bucket list, however they are not for the faint of heart or novice hiker!

a 9-hole Golf Course, in excellently maintained, picturesque scenery of the Langeberg Mountains.
Berry Picking and Liquor tasting at the Berry and Wildebraam Farms:
The Berry Farm grows youngberries, blackberries and blueberries and during harvest time you can pick your own!
Rain Forest Day Spa:
Our own South African Fair Trade body and bath product brand RAIN, has launched their very first Spa with Soul Concept in the historic picturesque town of Swellendam.
Bukkenburg Pottery Studio:
There is a large variety of pottery available and if you are lucky you may be able to spot the potters at work.

Hiking, Bowling, Mountain biking, Golf, Running routes, Horse Riding.
Horse Riding:
We have fantastic riding trails in and around Swellendam that will leave you breathless and longing for more!
Marloth Nature Reserve:
Wonderful walks to waterfalls, indigenous forest and even go to top of the Langeberg Mountains, with various day trails, ranging from easy, short walks to more strenuous, longer hikes. These trails lead into the shady green indigenous forest, where cool pools and waterfalls wait to be discovered.
Bontebok Park:
Cape Mountain Zebra, Bird watching, enjoy a walk in the park, Round trip 30km.
De Hoop Nature reserve:
This beautiful reserve is a favourite for hikers, cyclists, and bird and whale watchers. The reserve, which is 34 000 hectares, is just an hour and a half from Swellendam, a Round trip of 150km, mostly on gravel road.
Malgas Ferry/Pontoon:
This is something out of a story book. The Malgas Pont, as it is known is famous as the only hand-drawn pont, and the last of its kind, in South Africa. Guys harnessed, pulling the ferry across the river from six to six. If you’re in the area it’s well worth the experience and the kids will enjoy it
Robertson Wine Valley:
Representing over 50 wineries from the towns, Ashton, Bonnievale, McGregor and Robertson. Amongst the leading wine regions of the world, recognised for its wine, experiences and practices.
Cape Agulhas:
Southern most point in Africa. Visit the shipwreck museum and Kapula Candles. Round trip of 240km.
Montagu:
Hot springs or do a ride with tractor to the top of the mountains. Round trip 260km.
Tradouws Pass:
Absolutely worth it! Drive through the Langeberg Mountains into the little Karoo. Drive through Suurbraak to Barrydale and back a round trip of 90km. Barrydale offers wonderful experiences, great lunch spots and festivals throughout the year.
Beaches:
Infanta, Witsand, Arniston, Struis bay, all roughly an hours and half’s drive from Swellendam.

Swellendam is a quaint little town, friendly people and plenty of unique coffee shops. The perfect destination for a short weekend vacation away form the busy city.
We popped in to Swellendam town on the way home for a delightful lunch off the main street.
