Welcome to Mountain Rest!
Mountain Rest is an "off the grid" unit situated between mountains on a working livestock farm in Memel, Free State. The farm is within easy reach of the town, Memel, which has shops, restaurants and other amenities.
The cottage, which is solar & gas powered with no cell phone reception, is the ideal place to switch off and enjoy nature. It can accommodate up to 4 guests in 4 single beds.
The kitchen is equipped with a gas stove, gas fridge, coffee- and tea-making facilities as well as crockery and cutlery.
The geyser is gas heated and the lights are solar powered.
The cottage features a cosy fireplace, ideal for those winter breakaways.
The unit opens out onto a patio with a built-in braai and views over the dam and mountain.
Guests can enjoy hiking, fishing and swimming in the dam in front of the cottage and mountain biking on the farm.

Amazing place, restful and beautiful
Wonderful, peaceful stay. Clean air and beautiful starlight evenings. Love the fact that the area is enclosed. Dogs enjoyed the dam and walks. The humans had no choice but to tag along for the walks and enjoyed is as well.
A real gem of a find - lots to do and see with very welcoming hosts. We took our dogs with us and they absolutely loved the walks and the swims.
What a beautiful little piece of heaven. Highly recommended for a good rest in the mountains, with your own private 'beach' and kayak. Thank you Tamara and George.
We had a lovely weekend from 24 - 27 Sept. The cottage is comfortable, neat and impeccably clean. We enjoyed the wide open spaces, fresh air, and the dam! Being off the grid and close to nature was such a nice way to recharge:) Tamara is a caring and thoughtful host who considered our every need! Our dog and 2yr old were in their element. We cannot wait to visit again.
What a lovely place, looks exactly like the photos. It is one big spacious room, with a good size gas fridge and solar lighting, including a battery so you don’t have to worry about ending up in the dark. The kitchen is well equipped with a good gas stove. The braai area is very spacious with a lovely view. There is a kayak to play in the dam and a big enclosed lawn for the dogs. The dogs even got a bag of treats each. This is a really lovely secluded, quiet spot.
There was also a big basin, washing powder and drying rack, which we really appreciated being on a long holiday.
This was our 4th stop of 8 around the country.
We felt this stay could have charged more and still been good value.

Beautiful part of the country. The farmers fixed the road (potholes) and it is not bad at this stage.
Close and accessible from Johannesburg but the roads are not in great condition :(
