Nestled in the core of Maputo Special Reserve’s coastal forest, behind the sand dunes and few metres away from the long fine white sand beach and the turquoise sea, Ponta Membene offers the ideal base for both adventurous safari and laziness. Accommodation is offered in self-catering Dune and Forest Chalets, as well as campsites with exclusive ablutions and a group campsite with its own kitchen facility and ablution. The Dune Chalets are positioned on the lowest part of the coastal dune, from the west you get the sunset dimming through the forest over the wetland and from the east you get the cool sea breeze and the sound of the ocean. The Forest Chalets are positioned in the forest on the edge of the wetland with great care, offering you an opportunity to experience nature close-up with indoor-outdoor living. Guests have a choice of one- or two-bedroom chalets, each with their own kitchen, dining and living area, a private bathroom with an outdoor shower, and an outdoor firepit or braai area. The campsites are located next to the idyllic beach of Ponta Membene and offers you the opportunity to enjoy our vibrant fauna during the day and relax in front of the fire at night. The campsites each have hot showers, a USB plug point, 18h to 22h electricity, a water tap, and braai facilities. Explore the wild splendours of the Maputo Special Reserve surrounding you. Elephant, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, buffalo, exquisite bird sighting and many more are awaiting you. If you would rather just relax, then the wild Mozambican coast at your feet invites you on kilometres of pristine beach, and the turquoise sea welcomes you to meet an exceptional marine fauna and flora: swim with dolphins, contemplate the multi-coloured coral reefs and their countless inhabitants, dive and meet whales and whale sharks.
