The spacious Manor House is perfect for 6 people and offers 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, a kitchen and a lounge. Two of the bedrooms have double beds and the third has a queen-size bed and bunk bed. One of the rooms has an en-suite bath, while the other 2 rooms share a shower-only bathroom. The kitchen is equipped with a 2-plate stove and oven, fridge and an indoor braai area. The lounge has comfortable seating and a fireplace.

The cottage is comfortably furnished for 2 and is on the same property as the Manor House. Beautifully restored, the open–plan cottage is furnished with a double bed, and a kitchen with a stove, fridge and dining area. The cottage has a cosy fireplace and the bathroom is sectioned off and is fitted with a bath. The toilet is separate and enclosed.

Area Information:

The town of Sutherland was established on the farm, De List in 1855. The large Dutch Reformed Church, in the centre of Sutherland, was built in 1899. Sutherland is also the birth town of the famous South African Poet, NP van Wyk Louw. Sutherland also hosts the Southern African Large Telescope (SALT), the largest single optical telescope in the Southern Hemisphere. Sutherland’s arid climate and remote location 1,450 metres (4,760 ft) above sea level makes its night skies among the worlds’ clearest and darkest. When visiting the South African Astronomical Observatory, look out for Salpeterkop, an extinct volcano, which erupted 66 million years ago. The town is one of the coldest in South Africa with snowfall and extreme temperatures during the winter months. Snowfall is common in winter and on 12 July 2003 the lowest temperature in Sutherland was recorded as -16.4 °C.

The guesthouse, the food, the stars, the planetarium. No litter, no beggars and no starving stray dogs walking around.
