Greyton Toad Hall was built in 1855 and still retains many of the charms of houses from this era, with its thatched roof, gables and generous stoep. Numerous extensions to the original house and additional buildings means we can hold up to 18 people (7 rooms en-suite and one dorm room of 4 singles with bathroom 2m away on the back cottage stoep). By arrangement/additional cost, some times of the year we can add 2 kings in the historical house to sleep up to 22 people. From time to time, we do rent individual rooms.

It boasts the largest pool in Greyton – a 10m by 5m saltwater pool, complete with a hand-painted toad. Adjoining the pool is an 8-seater wood-fired hot tub (24 hours' notice required as takes 7 hours to heat). Our stoep is famous for watching the activities of the town- being in the centre of town, it’s the perfect place to enjoy a gin and tonic while watching the horses (and sometimes cows) amble by.

The back cottage (where the 4 single bed dorm is located) has a 24/7 kitchen/ dining room (Rabbits Meadow) for your use with all the crockery, cutlery, cooking utensils etc for 22 people, 20l air fryer (microwaves, grills, roasts etc), large fridge/freezer, as well as tables seating 12 people. Additional garden tables/chairs can be placed on the back cottage stoep for more undercover dining. The garden has an 6 seater table and numerous other 2 and 4 seater tables and chairs dotted around.

Two bedrooms in the middle cottage (Chief Weasel and Wild Woods) are self-catering with a bar fridge, two hot plate desktop oven, toaster and various useful utensils, pots and pans. All bedrooms have tea and coffee-making facilities.

Our fast and free Wi-Fi ensures you stay connected throughout your stay. The 2000-square-metre garden offers great views of the mountains and features both a gas and a wood braai, as well as a wood-fired 24-gallon drum pizza oven. If you enjoy smoking your food, the wood braai has a smoker attachment.

All restaurants and bars are within a five-minute stroll, and you are welcome to bring takeaways back to enjoy in the garden or on the stoep. All rooms are accessible via the guest side garden gate and all rooms have separate entrances.

In winter, we provide electric blankets and throws, and in summer, all rooms have fans. Solar panels and inverters ensure our guests never suffer from load shedding. Cotton linen and bath and pool towels are provided, featuring luxurious South African T-shirt Bed Company linen or 100% cotton linen. Guests can also enjoy our signature Greyton Toad Hall shower gel and body cream by a local Greyton producer, as well as exclusive Greyton Toad Hall chocolates from the world-famous Greyton chocolatier Von Gesau.

Area Information:

Greyton is a showcase of the many charms of Victorian houses with thatched roofs, gables and English country gardens plenty- enhanced by horses and the odd cows rambling through the streets as it's surrounded by a commonage.

Greyton Toad Hall is in the dead centre of town, with a massive stoep (porch) to witness country life. All restaurants and bars are within a 5-minute stroll. Cape Town International Airport is 127 km away.

Greyton, named after Sir George Grey, is a charming old town with gravel roads, thatched roof cottages, and beautifully restored buildings. The friendly locals and scenic route along the R406 make for a delightful drive. The town's oak-lined streets, canals, and donkey carts offer a unique lifestyle. Greyton is known for its historical buildings, antique shops, and craft markets, with the annual Rose Festival in October/November, its two wine festivals and beer festival being highlights.

A nature lover’s paradise, it lies at the foot of the Riviersonderend Mountain range, offering numerous day walks, hiking trails, well-mapped and safe mountain bike trails, yoga, and spa treatments, cold water springs and waterfalls.

A weekend in Greyton, with its shops, restaurants, and galleries, is a true pleasure.
