The daily life of the area's earlier inhabitants, the Bondelswart-Nama,is depicted on murals in the restaurant and chalets. Take part in excursions on horseback, drives and walks in Gondwana Canyon Park or enjoy a break at the swimming pool.

In Room Facilities:

Each room has twin beds, en-suite bathrooms, aircondtioners and a small veranda.

Area Information:

The Nama Karoo-yellow flowers of quiver trees against the blue sky at the second largest canyon on earth. The quiver tree is a typical stem succulent of the Nama Karoo, and on the vast plains of Gondwana Canyon Park several clusters can be found. With an area of 1.120 square km and the first tract of land acquired in 1995, this park is the largest and oldest nature reserve of the Gondwana
Desert Collection.

Property Facilities:

For exploring the park on your own the choice is between horse, four-wheel drive and walking stick. Or just relax with a book at the swimming pool. We offer sundowner / morning drives through the Canyon Park or a drive down to the Canyon Fish River viewpoint. There are horse rides and also great signposted walking trails.

Attractions:

Canyon Village in Gondwana Canyon Park is just 20 km away from the Fish River Canyon. Its dimensions are enormous: 160 km long, up to 27 km wide and 500 m deep. The Fish River Canyon is seen as the largest canyon in Africa and second largest canyon on earth - after the Grand Canyon in the US. Just as impressive is the period of time during which it was formed: 350 million years ago a fault with a width of 20 km appeared and the river meandered through it in wide loops. When the ancient continent of Gondwana disintegrated 120 million years ago, the Fish River started to dig deep into the ground and create its system of gorges.

We actually wanted to book the lodge. The Village is from our point of view not a place for individual travelers. It is more for groups. We don't like sitting in a corner for dinner and having noisy groups around us.

Okay. 3 out of 5
