The heart of Velddrif lies along the banks of the Berg River, where traditional fishing boats known as “bakkies” can often be seen bobbing gently in the water. In addition to its natural beauty and fishing heritage, Velddrif boasts a rich cultural history that dates back to the early Dutch settlers who arrived in the area in the 18th century. A good place to explore the west coast from as it’s setting is great on the marina. The marina is definitely the best place to stay. Gorgeous views and sunsets on the water. Russell’s on the Port for sundowners or a meal and Charlie’s brewery are really great- both in the Marina. The marina is definitely the place to stay in the area and I can recommend a few easily accessible trips from there. Alegria restaurant en route to St Helena is great and has a fantastic seaside setting. Really gorgeous.A visit to Hopefield to Simply bee is well worth it to buy their products as well as have a coffee and a cake or savoury board. It also has a beauty salon and bee observation and decor shop. There is also a quaint restaurant next door called Hello. It’s a quaint little town with a few shops to browse- don’t miss the craft shop with dolls house miniatures that are amazing. A day trip to Paternoster is also worth the drive as it has lots of shops to visit and a good few restaurants, galleries and coffee shops. Just be careful of opportunists. All the towns are roughly 20-30 minutes away so an easy drive. All in all we enjoyed the area.
