*Phophonyane Falls Ecolodge is situated in its own 600 ha private nature reserve which offers Pristine, high biodiversity middle veld escarpment habitat
*240 bird species, including good sightings of the narina trogon, wood owl, African goshawk, crowned eagle and other forest species
*Hiking trails through lush sub-tropical bush and riverine forests, leading to breathtaking views of the waterfalls, cascades and the surrounding mountains
*Forest game including red duiker, bushbuck, clawless otter, civet, caracal, porcupine, bushpig and water mongoose.
*Swimming in the rock pool situated just above the Phophonyane Falls which commands a spectacular view of the valley below
*The Phophonyane Falls Nature Reserve is an important geological site and is host to some of the oldest rocks in the world, ranging in age from 3.5 billion to 3. 2 billion years old which are displayed spectacularly along the Phophonyane River

*Nsangwini Rock Art Centre
*Located 10km southeast of Pigg's Peak, the Centre sits high above the Komati River. An estimated 4000 years ago, the San (Bushman) people used Swaziland's western highveld granite areas, including Nsangwini, for spiritual rituals and recorded iconic moments in their lives through etchings on the ancient rocks

Very comfortable room, a small fridge and it would be perfect. Beautiful landscapes, excellent cuisine, friendly and efficient staff. Very calm and relaxing situation.
perfect for nature lovers
We chose the place to spend our revelion and we are very pleased we made our best choice ever. A very quite and relaxing environment with excellent accommodation and cuisine! The place is also inspiring for those who love the nature...we will certainly be back there soon to deeply explore the water falls, history, flora, fauna and the green surroundings.
My husband and I were fortunate to stay at the Phophonyane Falls for a couple of nights at the end of our December holidays. The Ecolodge is perfect for those who are looking for a quiet break from the bustle. The atmosphere was perfect for a relaxing and romatic experience with lots of activities like birding, bush walks along safe & well maintained trails around the amazing waterfalls and of course swimming.
We stayed in a lovely traditional Swazi beehive (nr 2) for a different experience. Its much bigger than I anticipated and is all kitted out with en suite shower, coffee/tea making facilities and fans rather than aircon which, even though it was early Jan, was more than adequate to stay cool. Its also a little walk away from the main lodge so you have privacy and a beautiful view of the surrounding valley.
The staff are incredibly friendly and accomodating and taught us how to play the local Swazi game of moving beads/shells from 1 side of a board to the other....quite rivetting actually and kept us busy for hours!
The food was great and has a personal touch where you ordered your evening meal choice before 3pm to make it easier for the chef to co ordinate the meals. I highly recommend the fresh trout or the traditional Swazi beef bones and beans. So delish!
The lodge is only 4 hours away from Joburg so its a perfect long weekend destination. Border control is also easy and organised on both sides and we zipped through without any delays experienced for the busiest time of the year. We will definitely be back.

Very good luxury accomodation with much privacy and a very beautiful view.

This is wonderfully romantic place. I stayed in a tent with it's own wooden deck overlooking the waterfall. Great views and very secluded. The food was ok the packed breakfast could have been a bit more complete. Beautiful green gardens and wonderful walks. What I appreciated most was that there are different rooms where you could spend time - a TV room, the wonderful library, lounge and the swimming pool as well as of course very private on your own deck.
We had a lovely stay. Will definetely go again.
