We can say with some authority that the Markets of Warwick Junction is the largest market of its kind in South Africa. Located in the city of Durban, Warwick Junction is primarily a public transport hub from where close to half a million people commute. The market evolved around the masses who were able to make small and convenient purchases from street vendors on their way into work or returning home.
The area was once a seedy and decaying part of the city until authorities stepped in and created some infrastructure and split the market into designated areas. Today, thousands of vendors sell their goods from 9 markets. These markets are distinctly African, most products are authentic and handmade or sown and collected for the market.
