We came to Aquila to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. Beautiful place with professional service and care. The safari was very insightful with our funny guide Maxwell (Max). However, the quad bike experience was the best which I will not forget. Adrenaline rush while enjoying the surrounding bush and animals - rhinos were about 20 metres from us!
Thank you for making our stay memorable.
Aquila has the big 5, but it is predominantly a “gentle child friendly” conservation game park where rescued animals are rehabilitated. The work they do is vital for the survival of their animals and visitors should be in tune with the concept. The range is small as are the numbers of animals. The positives are numerous, Aquila is an affordable introduction for families looking for a “package holiday” - pool side and spa experience mixed with some beautiful views and very safe, close up animal experiences. Visitors are mixed between CT day trippers, short stay family holidays and company outings. Food is from a bountiful buffet to suit the numbers. We had a balconied room and it was spacious clean and well equipped.
Aquila’s is also a brilliant biodiversity project providing its own power and growing much of their salad and vegetables. Situated opposite the main facilities the bio area is alongside a close quarters rehabilitation enclosure and is a must see.
Negatives - well don’t arrive expecting “grand scale Africa” or the Kruger. Experienced national park visitors will find it too small with a “kept animal” feel. The lions are kept in a separate enclosure and fed. I was informed that their previous captivity has reduced the “wild hunting” ability. There is a lovely outlook but it’s not for the real escapists as a busy commercial overtone is evident. It’s not for “foodies”. There is no bespoke cooking, numbers count. This is the Western Cape and without trees - not easy for giraffes.
Overview- Aquila provides animals with freedom and shelter. It’s a scientific experiment and an introduction level game experience. It works well for short break, normal income earners and is brilliant for families and those also needing a poolside sun bed and chill between game drives.
