Are you in need of peace and quiet? Do you love bare nature and don't mind to get "back to basics"? Then this humble Free State farm with it's silence, privacy and pure nature is the place to be!
THE FARM WINDHOEK is 40 km to the east of Bloemfontein. Twelve kilometer of this is gravel road. As this is private land, directions to the farm will only be given when booking your stay with us.
The 234 hectare farm mainly consists of grassland. The two hills surrounding the farm are suited for hiking and provide an excellent view of the farm and it's surroundings.
The farm is very quite as it is relatively isolated and there are no mechanical or machinery activities on the farm. It's attraction lies mostly in the silence, it's raw and untouched nature and the peace and calm which it emanates... ideally to only sit somewhere and allow yourself to rest and recuperate..."recharge batteries", if you like...
Therefore our primary goal is to be a Rest and Recuperation Retreat.
We are following the "Back to Basics"-concept. Because of it's simplicity (there's no electricity, we make use of solar, wind, batteries or gas) everything is done in conjunction with nature. No TV, no computers (except for your own tablet or laptop). There is cellular signal at some places, as well as WiFi (hot spot) for emergency communication. Your electronic equipment can be charged by solar batteries.
Attractions on the farm include a scenic view of the typical Free State plainsfrom the surrounding hills, wood fossils and antiquities like old farm implements, of which some are still working. For cooling down in summer there is a lovely concrete dam filled with fresh, clean borehole water from two of the three windmills on the farm.
The pasture on the farm is currently being used by cattle and some seasonal wildlife (springbok, blesbok, steenbok, warthog, rabbits and jackals). Plans for more wildlife species and "private" chalets on the hills are some of our future prospects. In the meantime, wildlife viewing can be arranged on a neighbouring farm at additional costs.
After a good rainy season, the natural dam is full of water and bird life bursts with actvity - especially when the wild ducks and herons make their appearance. Please remember to bring your binoculars.
Evenings are mostly spent around the campfire under the clear skies and amazing view of the stars. A telescope is available for interested stargazers. These are the times when you come under the awareness of the greatness of the universe and feel the grace of God touching your soul.
The old farmhouse has a wide variety of books and old magazines to indulge in. There is also a collection of old records and a radiogram to play them on, as well as a variety of musical instruments, board and card games, therapeutic colouring books and puzzles. (You are also welcome to bring your own hobbies.)
Come, take a few days off and visit us to share in the peaceful farm life where clocks are irrelevant and your day is set by the "time of the sun". Here you can withdraw in peace and quiet or take part in some of the activities that are available, which ever you prefer according to your own needs.

If you are in need of peace and quiet, within an abundance of nature, THIS IS THE PLACE TO BE! Down to earth, being still a Farm (NOT a lodge!), here it is very safe and private, to do exactly what the farm's logo says: "Rest and Recuperate".
After a warm and friendly welcome, the owners really do everything they can to let you feel comfortable and "at home".
Besides the "nature-experience" of the veld, climbing the hills, watching the farm animals and some wildlife, there's also the interesting fossilized wood to see, one might even pick up a piece or two...
A most relaxing experience, not to be missed, and so near to Bloem!!
