Travessia is an Eco Beach Lodge that is all about understated barefoot-luxury. A mere 2,5 hours drive from the airport of Vilanculos, 1.5 hours from Inhambane, and just six kilometre of sand track away from the main road, the lodge is accessible enough for a long weekend break and yet remote enough still to give you that instant feeling of being cast-away.

In Room Facilities:

Bathrooms are ensuite with a seperate toilet and outdoor shower, except for Casa Madeira, which has the shower indoor.

Area Information:

The lodge is built on the dunes along the beach, nestled between bush and palm trees and with carefully chosen spots to maximize privacy and seaviews whilst maintaining proximity of the rooms to the lounge, restaurant and the beach. The buildings are constructed using elevated wooden decks and roll-up canvas walls under a roof thatched with local makuti.

Property Facilities:

Wooden walkways lead from the rooms to the Lodge’s main building with the restaurant, lounge and a spacious deck, overlooking the palm grove and the sea. A short walk from the restaurant will take you to our beach bar and pool with sundeck.
The lodge is entirely solar powered – ensuring a light environmental footprint.

Attractions:

* On Water: Mozambique sports world class dive sites, with whale sharks, manta rays or dolphins being a common sight off our shores. We will gladly organise your snorkelling or diving trip or ocean experience with one of Inhambane’s established dive centres. If you prefer to explore the ocean directly from our beach, there are body boards for kids and adults, an inflatable K2 and a two seater canoe to paddle out and brave the beach break.
* On Foot: Walk our endless beach which you only have to share with a handful of local fishermen and occasionally the kids of the neighbouring villages. We will happily provide you with a beach picnic. Find the enormous Baobab hidden in the sea of palm trees surrounding our terrain. Pay a visit to our neighbours for the Sunday soccer match or just to say hello and possibly score an invite to their small but creatively decorated and furnished houses, most of them made of woven palm fronds.
On wheels: Join us on one of our weekly shopping trips to Maxixe and browse the maze of the local market. You are unlikely to meet another tourist here. If you are interested in the broader neighbourhood, we will also gladly take you on a tour through the communities and introduce you to some of the projects we are involved in.
We also recommend a day trip to the city of Inhambane, which is just 20 minutes by ferry across the lagoon from Maxixe. This in itself is an experience.

One of the best places to go to in Southern Mozambique. We flew into Vilanculos and it's worthwhile to take the transfer to a property further away as you get rewarded with a beautiful beach pretty much all to your own and a remote island feeling. The lodge is small and well managed with a great focus on personal service and attention. Food is amazing and the lodge and rooms are stylish yet. not overdone, with a focus on views, views and more views. Travessia has a lot of return customers which is always a good sign.

We stayed two nights end of August, it was very relaxing, peaceful, Julie and Ryan took good care of us. I loved the veranda and the beach, room was perfect, nice wooden floors, views over palm trees and dunes till the ocean. I loved the outdoor shower.
Excellent food, nice area to relax. I recommend also the visit of the village nearby.
Like to come back for longer. Transfer from airport was arranged.

We had an amazing time at Travessia Beach Lodge. The contemporary African feel of the rooms and lounge combined with the palm trees and white sandy beach make this place perfect for city slickers wanting to move away from it all for a while. Lodge managers Julie and Ryan served delicious fresh local food and made sure we had all we needed (and more!). Beautiful pool with sun deck and outdoor beach bar for a sundowner. Can't wait to go back.

What a beautiful place to stay and forget about the rest of the world! It feels as if you are the only ones in the world.
Chalets are neat, clean and excellently equipped with all you will need. Housekeeping is excellent.
The manager and staff at the resort are extremely helpful and you as visitors are treated and catered to. Sergio needs to be commended for going out of his way to walk extra miles for us as visitors! What a gem!
Bring enough food for your stay as it is quite a mission to get more supplies. It takes hours out of your day to go to town. Be sure to use a 4x4 vehicle.
Allow enough time for travelling to Morrubene as it takes hours to get there. Keep to the speed limit and have lots of patience! The time it takes is worth it!
We explored some of the towns in the area and were amazed by the friendliness of the local people. It was safe walking around the towns. There was no problem whatsoever with crime. You feel safe! South Africa can really follow the example of Mozambique in the area of crime prevention.
What a wonderful experience!
We will have to visit Morrubene Beach Resort again.
