Thatchings Guest House and Small Conference Venue is situated near Nottingham Road, a mere 2 km from the N3 freeway and lies within a wildlife estate. It forms part of the Midlands Meander, South Africa’s Premier Arts and Crafts Route which is situated between the city of Pietermaritzburg in the east and the majestic uKhahlamba Drakensberg Mountain range World Heritage Site in the west.
Our accommodation is decorated with ethnic inspired pieces. Some of our suites are under traditional African thatch. We have a Junior Suite, 2 Family rooms, Twin rooms and 2 bedroom units. Rooms are heated and there are electric blankets and down duvets to ward off the winter chill. Magazines, TV, and tea or coffee making facilities are provided to make our guest's stay more comfortable.
There is an abundance of wildlife such as zebra, black wildebeest, red hartebeest, eland, bles buck, water buck and impala. You may well see duiker, reed buck, bush buck, porcupine, slender mongoose, vervet monkeys and caracal.

Visit the Midlands Meander which is South Africa's premier arts and crafts route. In close proximity, you can play a round of golf from a selection of golf courses, go horse riding, abseiling, quad biking, hot air ballooning, and clay pigeon shooting. Try the Karkloof Canopy Tour that gives you a birds-eye view of the forests below. Visit a cheese farm, wine estate, health spa, wellness centre, or go on a picnic. You could also visit the San Rock Art Centre and see original San drawings or go up the Sani Pass to the highest pub in Africa. The Zulu and Anglo Boer War Battlefields are an approximate 60-minute drive away.
