The Beach and Changing Tides

The shoreline is  the biggest attraction in Uroa Zanzibar. Clear turquoise water meets with soft white sand. Palms that grew palm trees lining the shoreline. It is a very beautiful beach and especially in the morning sunshine.

Here the flow of the tide can be detected. It's better to swim at high tide times. When the tide goes out large sandbeds plant themselves, at times exposing seaweed farms. The variations cause some parts of the coastline to change at different times of the day, around Uroa Zanzibar. It is quite an extensive beach on the low tide.

A Village with Local Charm

Uroa Zanzibar life is laid back. Traditional wooden boats are still seen close to the shore and fishing is still a significant part of the community.

Seaweed aquaculture is another popular profession. In low tide sometimes local people can be observed taking care of their seaweed gardens. For example compared to the more touristy places of Zanzibar there is relatively little nightlife in Uroa Zanzibar. Local stores, small restaurants and more laid back beachfront areas and  provide the ambiance. The evening are quiet with the ocean nearby.

Accommodation and Nearby Attractions

The level of accommodation at Uroa Zanzibar differ from basic guest houses. Along the shore to pleasant resorts. Some properties have a swimming pool, restaurants and rooms to see the ocean.

Not everything within the village is interesting though there also are interesting things outside of the village. It will take between 1 hour to reach Stone Town by car depending on the traffic. It has historic streets, markets and old buildings that provide another face of Zanzibar. The Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park has a number of rare red colobus monkeys and mangrove forests. These are things which will provide some variation without taking away from the cordial coastal lifestyle those guests can opt for when living in Uroa Zanzibar.
