Gauteng is the commercial and industrial hub of South Africa, with an unmistakable flow of energy and activity well and alive on its streets. In recent years the province – the smallest of the nine in the country – has become quite a tourist hot spot especially for first time visitors to the Republic. While its main city Johannesburg is a combination of vibrancy and passion, the capital city of South Africa, Pretoria – in the north of Gauteng – is more peaceful and laidback. Pretoria is picturesque and boasts a central location, giving travellers easy access to many of Gauteng’s premier attractions. South Africa’s parliament is based in Pretoria, with various tour packages featuring trips out to the Union Buildings a favourite amongst visitors. The upmarket suburb of Lynwood Ridge can be found to the east of Pretoria. Indeed it is quite pretty as it features magnificent jacaranda-lined streets and panoramic views of the rest of the city. Lynwood Ridge counts Brooklyn, Waterkloof, and Hatfield as its neighbours and offers fairly large homes, with tranquil gardens and a peaceful atmosphere. Lynwood Ridge has a fairly central location with commuters having easy access to the University of South Africa, CSIR and its convention centre, and Menlyn shopping centre, which has an abundance of shopping malls, entertainment outlets, and restaurants. The CSIR is one of Africa’s leading scientific and technology research and development centres, while the stunning National Botanical Gardens also nearby makes for a wonderful visit. Other top attractions in the area include Melrose House, the Silver Lakes Golf Club, and the Sammy Marks Museum.
