93 on Jan Smuts is located in one of the oldest parts of Johannesburg, the suburb of Saxonwold (formerly known as Sachenswald). The main house was built in 1928, which is also the year that Johannesburg was declared a city, and recently renovated in a modern classic style. We offer complimentary internet access via WiFi in the suites and the public areas on the premises, for your convenience. Every suite has a direct dial telephone, while faxing is available at reception. Strolling in the garden provides a glimpse of South Africa's bio diversity. We have a fair number of bird and butterfly species that are attracted by the indigenous vegetation and various water features.
Johannesburg constitutes the largest man-made forest in the world (about 10 million trees at last count!). The older, established suburbs are green beyond beauty at times, and contrasted to the natural state this is quite amazing. The highveld, in which Joburg finds itself, is actually a fairly dry area, made up of rocky outcrops and savannah punctuated by acacia thorn trees. The pond is home to various species of frogs that make themselves heard at night during the summer nights! The resident fish do their best to avoid the pied kingfisher
that regularly takes up position on the overhanging branches.
The swimming pool provides welcome relieve in the warm summer months. Johanneburg is rumoured to have one of the best climates in the world. We are exceptionally lucky, with summers rarely getting beyond the mid-thirties and winters only dipping below zero at night, and not many nights in a year. Winter is dry, with crystal blue skies, and summer is hot with characteristic afternoon thunderstorms.
